Are there any musical enthusiasts about? I'm looking for something for dd1 to read...

& musicals are her thing at the moment so I wondered if there are any books based on musicals, or about the work that goes into them that anyone would recommend?

(She's 13 1/2 years old) :)

Wicked and Hamilton have books but they are pretty pricey!

Ooh Hamilton is alllllll I hear at the moment (from both girls), not sure I could cope with a book as well for them to tell me about but I'll take a look Grin

@Pinkflipflop85 thank you!

I've just typed Hamilton into my amazon search bar & found piano books and colouring books too! She's after a keyboard for Christmas so I'll stick them in my wish list for the moment as well.

She could read Les Miserables Gin

lucysmam · 02/08/2020 23:12

@refriedbeanstalk she could; she wasn't keen on that particular musical but may read and go back to it.

I'll suggest it in the morning and see what she says :)

Les miserables is my favourite of all time but I found the book incredibly dull to read.

Hmm maybe there are books out there about putting on a play/musical? As a teen, I read Confessions of a teenage drama queen and remember enjoying it! www.goodreads.com/book/show/46260.Confessions_of_a_Teenage_Drama_Queen

'All I know now' by Carrie Hope Fletcher (my 17 year old daughter's idol. She is a YouTuber and star of Les Mis, Addams Family, Heathers The Musical)

lucysmam · 03/08/2020 09:05

@secretfreckle that sounds like it might interest her!

@Pombearsandnaiceham so does Confessions of a teenage drama queen, from a quick read of that Goodreads page!

I'll stick both in my amazon basket for her to have a look at when I wake her up in a while.

Just a quick bump in case anyone has any other ideas :)

Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats? TS Eliot's book of cat poems which ALW turned into Cats. Eliot wrote the poems in letters to his godchildren originally.

How about Maskerade by Terry Pratchett. It's loosely based on Phantom of the Opera but a much better read.

Depending on your dd's maturity, you could try Spring Awakening.

On a parallel track, you might want to try her on some spoken word pieces. The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo is an amazing spoken word, young adult novel. It's particularly impactful when listening to the audiobook which is read by the author.
