Looking at moving to Morpeth. What is it like?

I'm looking at moving house next year. Due to personal reasons, staying in the city I currently live in isn't possible. I've been looking at towns/cities further afield. I like the look of Morpeth, though it isn't somewhere I know much about beyond what's on Google (may have visited while on holiday in Northumberland many years ago, but can't remember).
Is there anyone who lives there/near there who can say what it's like?

I went there last week one day while on holiday! Seems quite small and upmarket. Lovely park. Fab cheese shop.

Google the Running Fox in Felton. I’d move purely for that.

I live close to Morpeth and know it well. Lovely market town. Good shops/ bars/eating places. Fab schools, king Edwards is one of the best state schools in the area. Huge childrens park with paddling pool and river walks. Good lesuire centre Excellent transport links, train station can get you to Newcastle in 20 mins, Edinburgh in just over 1 hour. Huge brand new health centre.10 mins drive to the coast or out into Northumberland national park. Property prices higher than average as is a desirable place to live.

Morpeth is a nice town. Good shops although shopping for boys clothes has always been problematic. Pandemic means we've just lost Laura Ashley and New Look. Good schools but very over subscribed so no guarantees. A lot of coffee shops and restaurants. Lovely walk by the river and a new leisure centre is about to be built. Mind I have been known to joke that it's the bit between Royston Vasey and the banjos of deliverance - it can be a bit insular. Good base for travel to Newcastle and on the main line to Edinburgh from KX. Excellent base for travelling into Northumberland and to the coast. There's a lot of development going on and, as someone has already mentioned, house prices are higher than average although it depends on what you're looking for and where it is. There's a large Barrett development at Stobhill on the outskirts. Another at Northgate just off the new bypass. There's plenty of housing stock. The nearest cinema is at Cramlington and there's a decent shopping centre there too (about 15 mins drive). Good farm shops at Stannington Station and Blagdon. Morpeth Matters is the facebook page so you might want to take a look on there.

Good shops, schools, housing. Friendly and pretty town. I'm not far from there.

I used to live in Morpeth and have lived nearby, it is a lovely place to live. Varied shops, great park, woods and riverside, so not just for children, adults enjoy the area too. Lots of nightlife, but also bordering on lots of countryside if that's your preference.

As others have said, house prices\rents higher than other areas but worth it if you can afford it as one of the better towns in the area to live in and much better links\public transport to surrounding areas like Newcastle, Cramlington, Blyth etc than other towns; also has a train station - good commuter town. (Somewhere like Ashington has the Spine road (A197) to Cramlington and Newcastle so good for driving, but not so good public transport - no functioning train station but there is talk of reinstating it in the future.)

Nice place to live but watch out for certain less appealing estates.

it's on my radar at the mo, like Northumberland and have seen it as a potential spot for me n my 2 girls 13 & 17.

Is Loansdean a good area?

Morpeth is lovely and also close to the beach which would be a huge draw for me. Google Walton- it's beautiful

Yes, Loansdean is just on the edge of the town. It's nice.

My DSis used to live in Morpeth. It’s a lovely town. It was a few years ago but I don’t think it’s changed much. It had a very lively night time scene. I remember the pubs more than anything ( we were all young and child free). Had a fun drive to see all the local sites but it was Feb and foggy and we were all a bit hungover.
We are planning a trip up there sometime to actually visit some of the places we couldn’t see.🤣
