Craft Ideas

I'd like to start up a new hobby, something crafty ( I know I can look on pintrest, I just thought I'd ask and see what other people here do 🙂)

I can't sew, knit or crochet to save my life - I've tried. So any other ideas would be great!

Can you draw or paint? There are some good tutorials on YouTube.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 02/08/2020 21:18

Colouring is good for just a quiet and peaceful activity.

Dot painting is also very peaceful and intricate with beautiful results. I really want to do some nice stepping stones for the garden.

jess3817 · 02/08/2020 22:10

I can't draw or paint🙈 I do a lot of colouring already.

Dot painting is a bit different, I can't draw and don't understand blending paints or techniques like watercolour, but I can dib a stick in paint and make dots in a pattern so have been practicing that.

Decoupage.....currently undergoing a bit of a revival and anyone can do it.

scoobydoo1971 · 02/08/2020 22:45

Paper mache is cheap and easy. Lots of tutorials online.

ArabellaRockerfella · 02/08/2020 23:45

Needle felting or dry felting is surprisingly easy and quick. It's not expensive to do either.
I love it and find it very therapeutic, though the needles can be a bit lethal!
I've made brooches, xmas tree decorations, hair clips and animals.
I even made a life size model of my dog.
I've attached some photos. There are loads of YouTube tutorials and ideas on Pinterest too. You can get the wool and needles at Hobbycraft or online.

Polymer clay/Fimo? Some people create some really nice things:
Jewellery that looks like flowers,, semi precious gem set items). Other people make dolls house food. Other people make little models. You "fire" the clay in an ordinary oven for 20 minutes or so on a very low heat.

Very low cost hobby to have a go at as you just need to buy a couple of small blocks of polymer clay.

Photography and then creating digital "art" (I use that word very loosely) from the resulting pictures using Photoshop. My images aren't amazing but I enjoy it and it gives me something to do on a long, otherwise dull evening.

Lino printing or stamp making
Punch needle work
embroidery
Beading
Weaving
Marbling

If there is a Cass Art near you have a wonder round or have a look at craft subscriptions and craftsy or creativebug something might leap out at you

Hadn't thought of this either @TwoZeroTwoZero.@Didkdt like the sound of marbling and punch needling - might do what you suggest and look at some magazines too .

I was going to say needle felting too, DD has recently gotten into it and loves it! It doesn't seem too tricky but she's always been good at arty/crafting stuff so maybe she's just fooling me Grin

unstableunicorn · 03/08/2020 09:43

Card making? Only needs plain cards, a block of patterned paper and some glue. I've made cards for a lot of our elderly shielding neighbours offering help if they need it, birthday cards etc

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 03/08/2020 09:49

Cross stitch? Doesn’t require any skill as it is literally sewing tiny crosses between the dots on aida fabric, but very calming to do whilst listening to the radio

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 03/08/2020 09:53

I’ve got really into watching resin making videos on YouTube.

I haven’t actually made anything g yet it bought supplies, but watching the videos is very therapeutic!

That's amazing! And your dog is beautiful Smile I imagine you could make money making these for people ...

Scrapbooking, or other papercrafts.

Decoupage is especially forgiving - it never goes wrong, you need no skill, can be done by all ages etc.

JaneJeffer · 04/08/2020 22:49

Diamond painting? victoriasmoon.co.uk/collections/buy-2-get-1-free/products/2019-dream-landscape-lakeside-5d-diy-diamond-painting-kits-uk-vm4104

@ArabellaRockerfella I love your menagerie!

jess3817 · 05/08/2020 17:06

@ArabellaRockerfella - those are brilliant! I've bought some needling felting stuff and decopauge too to be getting on with - liking the idea of scrapbooking too.

Aw thanks. The dog was for my daughter as she was going away to Uni and was really upset about missing the dog sleeping on her bed when she revised.
