I need something that will shift some stubborn soap scum (sorry) and limescale, without a vile chemical smell. Would you recommend using with an ordinary damp cloth, microfibre cloth, scrubbing brush or scouring sponge ?

The Cif cream cleaner I have just couldn't cut it this morning.

Thankyou.

I always used Aldi with a micro fibre but if it’s really stubborn fill the bath with hot water and a couple of cups of washing powder.

Leave as long as you can bear then it should lift right off.

Give method a try, works getting scum off great , first go give it a scrub with a washing up brush and toothbrush for hard to reach places

dollybird · 01/08/2020 13:55

I use ecover limescale remover spray on the sink and in the shower. Spray on, leave for a few minutes, scour then rinse

I bought one of those dishmatic sponge things - I filled it up with washing up liquid and vinegar and use it in the shower and round the manky shower tray. Works well!

vanillandhoney · 01/08/2020 14:13

Method bathroom cleaner is really good. I use all their stuff - last ages and smells nice too.

WisestIsShe · 01/08/2020 14:20

Cillit bang lime and grime smells gross but works really well. I spray, leave and rinse. No scrubbing required. Once a week is enough to keep my shower glass sparkly in a hard water area. Although I do squeegee after showers.

allfallsdown · 01/08/2020 14:33

The pink stuff paste and spray is cheap £1 ish and works amazingly well. I use with an elbow grease hard scrubbing block and a minky bathroom pad.

Mehmehmeh19 · 01/08/2020 14:37

Bar keepers friend the spray one sorted my absolutely disgusting shower out with no problems

doodleygirl · 01/08/2020 14:39

Bicarb of soda mixed with fairy liquid, or bleach if its a mould stain.

White wine vinegar mixed with equal amounts of water.

PETRONELLAS · 01/08/2020 14:41

The newish Cif spray in the oval bottle. Really impressive. Viakal doesn’t like my limescale.

junglie · 01/08/2020 14:42

We use method. Does the job and smells nice. The shower cleaner is Great for keeping the glass screen clean.

Aquicknamechange2019 · 01/08/2020 14:47

Method is my favourite. I use viakal on the shower screen etc then rinse off and finish with method.

kimlo · 01/08/2020 14:49

flash woth fabreeze.

The liquid was better but I can't find that anymore.

Rainb0wDrops · 01/08/2020 14:51

Method bathroom spray and I also use viakal (the febreeze scented one) every few weeks to keep limescale at bay

Trixieandkatya · 01/08/2020 14:52

Vinegar, soak some kitchen roll in in and leave it on the affected areas for a bit, clean of with a sponge or microfiber cloth, I use an old toothbrush for scrubbing round taps and plug holes. It doesn't smell great while your using it, but the smell it's gone once washed off.

If that doesn't work and it's really stubborn, bar keepers friend is amazing. I use the powder, you sometimes have to use a little elbow grease with it, but it really does shift the stuff that nothing else can!

hellolittlebaby · 01/08/2020 15:00

Apparently, barkeepers friend is good on a limescaley bath. I'm going to try some. I have some, but haven't done it yet.

I really like the pink stuff's cream cleaner personally. £1 from home bargains or Poundland I think.

ThePug · 01/08/2020 15:45

Depending how large areas of limescale you need to remove, I read a tip on here this week about rubbing with a copper coin and it only bloody works! I’ve done all our chrome plugs and plug holes and they’re gleaming! Also works on the ceramic sink around the plug hole

Roselilly36 · 01/08/2020 15:53

Astonish bathroom cleaner is really good £1 for a trigger bottle, before that I was using Vamoose from Lakeland £4.99 a bottle. No different in performance IMHO. Saving a fortune.

WildRosie · 01/08/2020 16:55

Some useful suggestions here. Method seems to be a popular one.

Thankyou all.

Yes to Flash with Febreze. It smells lovely!

squanderedcore · 01/08/2020 17:02

Buy or recycle a plastic spray bottle. Add warm water, a squeeze of washing up liquid and add at least a third of clear industrial vinegar to the mix. Shake. Spray on. Leave for a bit. Rinse off. Great for shower doors using a small rubber squeegee. Save ££££££ on cleaning products.

WildRosie · 01/08/2020 17:11

I don't have a problem with the shower screen. It's fitted to the bath and I wipe it dry as possible with a MF cloth after using the shower so there are no streaks. It's the area of the bath underneath the shower that attracts the soap scum and limescale. The water in our area is quite iron-heavy too. It leaves a quite pungent pong on any fabric left to dry indoors.

Buddywoo · 01/08/2020 17:21

Viakal every time.

WildRosie · 02/08/2020 13:41

I bought the Astonish Premium Edition cleaner this morning. Two quid in Booths. Works quite well but needed two applications. Thankfully it doesn't smell awful.

I use the bathroom cleaning sponges. They have a scouring side and a sponge side. They seem to get most crud off the bath. I use a spray that’s got a nice smell or is on offer.

I didn’t rate method.
