My cat is covered in toothpaste, help!

Turned my back to start making lunch earlier and DS (3) went into the bathroom without me noticing. Seems to have put toothpaste all over the toilet brush then hid our cat in the face with it, probably thought he would brush her teeth. She’s now got toothpaste all over her face and head. Tried washing it out immediately, the majority is gone but it’s not shifting from around her eyes/ears. Is it possible to remove toothpaste from fur or is this a trip to the vets? She doesn’t seem to be hurt and the toothpaste doesn’t seem to be bothering her, though she currently won’t let me near her in case I try to bath her again!

And yes, DS was given a row for it. He loves brushing teeth though, it wasn’t done maliciously

I'd definitely ring the vet, the weirdest things are toxic to cats so they might have better advice than the internet :)

Mine walked over a row of candles once and ended up with a singed, waxy fluffy belly - accidents happen, but do check with vet so it doesn't end badly x

Have you got any baby wipes , damp cloth etc to wipe poor puss .
I am not a vet but as long as cat doesn't ingest any she should be ok .
You may want to ask to get you post moved to the litter tray. Someone on there may have a better idea

Has the brush been used with bleach or toilet cleaner or just in the toilet recently?

Google the antiseptic in the toothpaste and see if it’s toxic to cats.

I’ll give the vet a ring then, just to make sure. I’ve tried baby wipes, might give a damp cloth a go too. No it was a brand new brush @Lockdownlooks we were not long back from shopping when it happened

did you get the vet? Sweeteners are toxic to dogs and i assume cats too - chewing gum can prove fatal so I'm guessing toothpaste won't be ideal.

SnugglySnerd · 31/07/2020 17:26

It's obviously not the same but when our cat got paint on its paws olive oil got it off, might be worth a try? If it doesn't come off then definitely call the vet and ask.
