Migraine help

NC

So I've had constant migraines and headaches since the 16th, I've seen the doctor, been given sumatriptan. They aren't working, I'm waiting for a call back from the dr this afternoon. I've tried paracetamol, ibuprofen, migraleave. Nothing works. I've spent the last week wearing sunglasses, and taking holiday from work. I work in a call centre so I can't bare it at the moment with the lights and computers and the noise. Have an eye test booked for Monday. Also have fibromyalgia, but has anyone got any suggestions while I wait for a call back? I can't take this anymore. I'm sick of the pain, and the sweats and the nausea.

Thanks 😩

Migralieve works for me if taken at first sign of aura. My doctor also gets migraines and recommended a high percentage dark chocolate. I always keep some in my desk for the times I didn't get to take migralieve quick enough.

Idratherbeasleep · 30/07/2020 22:55

I also suffer from migraines and was on sumatriptan, I now have ritzatriptan like a pp and find that with paracetamol and ibuprofen as soon as I get an aura/feel one coming it works much better

You have my full sympathy, migraines are the pits. I ended up in hospital last year with one so bad they thought I had a brain bleed.

Interesting what you've said about laying down, I find that I'm better propped up slightly in bed (I have an array of v shaped and normal pillows) with a weighted blanket on me, a cool pack or icekap on my head and the fan aimed at me. I tend to drift off like this and then work my way to lying down (usually once the drugs have kicked in).

Hope you feel better soon

Dc2 swears by aspirin and cold packs.
I'm not a migraine sufferer, so can't comment, but for dc, this has shortened migraine from up to 36 hours to less than 12.

Chubbalubs · 31/07/2020 11:32

So the dr said it's a tension headache? Definitely doesn't feel like any type of headache I've had beforeHmm anyone had one before? He's prescribed me codeine and amitriptyline to help and he said by Monday I should be feeling better

Zomig nasal spray is the only one that works for me. Anything else makes no difference and I end up bed ridden for 3 days flat.

nicky7654 · 31/07/2020 11:43

I also had treatment with a chiropractor regarding a painful neck and this definitely helped the migraines.

lborgia · 31/07/2020 11:45

I second Rizatriptan, MUCH better for ther migraine sufferers in our family.

If it's a true tension headache, magnesium makes a difference, and, massage, and I'm going to say it, orgasm, if you get the pain eased enough to even think about it!

Good luck, sounds hideous.

TiffanyIceberg · 31/07/2020 11:48

I use Syndol for tension headaches, it has something in it that relaxes my neck muscles. I am a migraine and fibromyalgia sufferer too. Hope you feel better soon.

lborgia · 31/07/2020 11:58

Oh yes, doxylamine succinate is the muscle relaxant in syndol, magical!

HoldMyLobster · 31/07/2020 14:51

Yes, tension headaches are awful. I hope the meds help - the amitriptyline may make your mouth and eyes feel dry.

I'm reading about Doxylamine Succinate with interest as I think quite a lot of my headaches are tension related. I'm actually seeing my doc about something else this afternoon so will mention it.

Chubbalubs · 03/08/2020 08:14

So the meds haven't helped, my head is still pounding, I have the opticians in an hour, I'm not having eye floaters and my pupils have gone weird, ones a bit bigger than the other, not massively but definitely noticeable.. anyone had this?! Definitely shouldn't have Googled itBlush

Feverfew tablets (herbal) and a 6 weekly visit to a chiropractor have sorted my regular migraines (I no longer get them).

Good luck!

Blueeyedpixie · 03/08/2020 08:44

Propranolol? Has that been mentioned?

That’s what I have and it has worked but has it’s own side effects Flowers

HoldMyLobster · 03/08/2020 15:55

I'd hope the optician sends you to get that checked out ASAP. I know different size pupils can be associated with migraines but as the migraine isn't a 'normal' one for you I'd be worried.

UnfinishedSymphon · 03/08/2020 15:58

I feel for you, I was getting 2 or 3 a month until my doc prescribed propranolol. Haven't had any now for over 2 years

Chubbalubs · 03/08/2020 16:39

Optician wasn't concerned about the pupils, apparently everything looks fine, have called the dr and explained it all again and they've prescribed naproxen now too, to take with cocodamol and ampitryptaline and they're not concerned about the pupils either because the optician isn't. Asked to be signed off work as I work in a call centre, and I just can't cope.. been going dizzy too, genuinely thought I had an aneurysm or something last night the pain was so bad. Don't know what more I can do if the naproxen doesn't helpSad

Chubbalubs · 03/08/2020 16:40

@HoldMyLobster I thought they would, but nope, honestly considered going to a&e last night because of the pain and my pupils but I thought It would be an overreaction, just have to see how it goes apparently

Have you tried Topiramate? I've found it really good at preventing them (you need to get frequent migraines in order to get it prescribed, and it's a preventative not an abortive).

I can't take propranolol due to being asthmatic, so was given topiramate, but you need to find the right dose. 50mg worked for me for a while, then when I started getting them again, I had to go up to 100mg.

GlamGiraffe · 03/08/2020 17:34

Dioralyte.
Lots of fluid, And salt in general can sometimes help me.
Cold on my head, hot water bottle behind my neck.
Eating ice lollies.
None of the medicine works for me.

It has been awful migraine weather. I've had migraine for more days than not over the past month and have spent several at a time flat out in the dark, theres funny stuff going on at the moment. Hope it's better soon, it's so unpleasant.

FelicityPike · 03/08/2020 17:34

Could you go to A&E?
Explain that you’re getting scared now.

maxicheddar · 03/08/2020 17:37

Hope you are ok OP. I had a period of frequent extremely painful migraines (worse than usual) and different sized pupils. Triptans made it worse. I thought it was basilar migraine maybe as I couldn't speak properly either. Felt as if I were shrinking being compressed to. Very strange. Doctors haven't helped much but I had to stop work for multiple reasons now so it is easier now to nip them in the bud and go to bed and close the curtains etc. Since then have had less pain but still all the other sensations and it gets in the way of life.

I also find chocolate and a massage to my neck and scalp it can help a lot, but I think what helps most it not having to push through in the way I used to have to. That just led to one after another and another, getting worse each time. Was a bit scary.

I do think that if you are so much pain that you are thinking of going to A&, then you should go, especially with the pupil thing. A doctor should check them and describing things after the fact never has the same effect I find. Sort of oh well, you'r okay now aren't you.. v unhelpful! Hope you can get some relief and some answers Flowers.

maxicheddar · 03/08/2020 17:39

*"Felt as if I were shrinking or being compressed" is what I meant to say!

Chubbalubs · 03/08/2020 18:05

I'm trying to keep the fluids up, had almost 2 litres of water today, & I'm craving chocolate, guna sit with an ice pack for a bit, bloody sick of it now
