Bit of a weird one...what are the best sort of resources for your DC when you visit museums?

I mean resources like fun work sheets...not so much the more interactive things like dressing up or science experiments.

Reason is that I'm trying to help a very tiny museum who have no budget and need to create some kind of fun worksheet they can hand out to visiting children.

Treasure hunt type stuff. Can I tap into the hive mind of MN and ask what kind of things like this your children have enjoyed in the past?

I've just remembered how much my kids enjoyed the children's trail around Westminister Abbey! It was a worksheet, but it involved finding little details/dates around the Abbey - and the reward for completion was a giant chocolate coin!

This is an entire professional area. Is there a county museums officer you could get in touch with? They could put you onto your regional Museums Federation who are professionals in museum education/volunteer management etc. And they are likely to share their resources with you if it's a small non profit you're trying to help.
Good luck.

What engaged them most was definitely the personal audio tours aimed at children. It helped keep them focussed and they didn't have to read the info.

We went to Chatsworth last year and they'd just updated their audio tours, there was a hand held device so there were videos etc to watch as well. We were there for hours and even DS who was 6 at the time enjoyed it. To do such a high quality tour is probably very expensive but it worked very well there.

But what the PP said about making hse of the regional support is sensible advice, probably still good to hear about the tours that people liked though. Biggest thing is to have age appropriate stuff.

When my kids were little they loved the treasure hunt type worksheets. If it was attached to a clipboard with a pencil on a string the excitement levels sky rocketed! Also a small prize for completing was always much appreciated.
