whales and dolphins in captivity

DS and I were just talking and thinking that views have changed about keeping whales and dolphins in captivity. We've seen them in the past at Seaworld (over 10 years ago now) but wouldn't be prepared to go and see them in captivity now, we think times have changed and places like that have had their day. We've since been fortunate enough to see whales in the wild.

We were just wondering if it's just our views that have changed or if it's seen as less socially acceptable nowadays to keep cetaceans in captivity and less socially acceptable to pay to see them in captivity.

Society has definitely changed but it also stems from the horrific deaths of the trainers around the world when these giant predators decide to turn on them.

These animals are meant to travel thousands of miles across oceans. Keeping them in such tiny tanks must be torture. Even if born in captivity, that drive is still there.

Same reason polar bears go mad in zoos.

The ideal would surely be no wild animals in captivity and protecting and preserving their natural habitats.

The beluga whale in Valencia broke my heart. So sad.
