So which is my weight?!

So I've always been the same weight, I basically hover around8st 11, I occasionally weigh myself in the morning and it's always the same. Naked, pre breakfast, you get the picture Grin
I'm very much in the throes of menopause and I've noticed that as the day progresses I feel increasingly bloated. By the evening I feel positively flabby, even though logically I know I'm not!
So today I weighed myself this morning, 8st 11 and then again just now. 9st 3, wtf?
Can you gain that much weight in a day?
Which is my weight? The morning or the night one?!
The menopause really is a gift after all those years of periods, child birth etc Just what is women deserve Hmm

Bin the scales and use a tape measure instead.

dotdashdashdash · 28/07/2020 21:26

Yeah 6lbs in a day is reasonable.

@allfalldown47 They're both your weight - weight isn't static, it varies on so many things - how much you've eaten, drank, toileted, moved, whether your muscles ache (you can actually weigh more after exercise because of this), where you are in your cycle.

Dont weigh yourself multiple times a day. Its a minefield and it becomes obsessive - its how I slipped into disordered eating.

Bloated - my aunt swears by prune juice

allfalldown47 · 28/07/2020 21:42

Thanks @booandbumpp I really think I'm fine, I've always eaten what I like and have a good relationship with food etc
Having said that, I must admit seeing my weight above 9st was odd (obviously it did happen when I was pregnant!) and the bloating is really getting me down!

The only thing that reduces my peri menopausal bloating is cutting down carbs, sadly. White bread (I love baguette!) and potatoes are a killer. I also have to drink lots of water daily or I puff up like, well, a puffer fish if I'm even slightly dehydrated.

Shizzlestix · 29/07/2020 00:37

I remember an American Marine type doing a Celebrity weight loss programme saying ‘I could have a shit and lose 2lbs!’ when someone had ‘only’ lost that much. I fluctuate madly, by 3 lbs in between weighings, both within 2 minutes. I suspect my scales are not accurate!

allfalldown47 · 29/07/2020 08:39

I'm terrible at drinking water, all I drink is tea and occasionally fruit juice Confused
I'm not sure I could cut down carbs that much but I'll give it a go and definitely start drinking water.
The bloating is awful by the evening, yet first thing in the morning my tummy is flat and I look like I always have!

I’ve found cutting back on refined carbs stops the bloating.
Move to wholewheat pasta and bread, eat move root veg and fewer and less wheat products in general.

allfalldown47 · 29/07/2020 18:14

So I've mostly avoided carbs today and actually do feel way less bloated. Amazing!

Your true weight is your morning weight. You know that surely after roughly 50 years on the planet?

Skyliner001 · 29/07/2020 18:22

I go between eight stone eight and eight stone 13 depending on the time of day. I tend to think of my weight as being eight stone 12 at the moment.

allfalldown47 · 29/07/2020 18:37

@Chicchicchicchiclana Not particularly! I'm fortunate that I've always been the same size, so never really paid much attention to my weight at particular times of day.
It's only this menopausal bloat that's made me wonder about it!

OP posts:
allfalldown47 · 29/07/2020 18:39

I guess I was pondering it because friends/family who do weight watchers talk about losing 3 pounds one week, 5 the next etc and I apparently gained 5 in a day! Grin

OP posts:
TempestHayes · 29/07/2020 19:54

You've weighed your day's water retention, your food and probably some poo.

TheHighestSardine · 29/07/2020 20:00

Drinking tea is fine btw, it's a nonsense that it has to be just water - sometimes to try and convince the people that think six pints of full-sugar Coke is sensible hydration, though, which is an attempt I can get behind!

Six glasses, six pints, six litres is also a myth, totally made up by mad people with no science. There is no science recommended daily amount, just get a decent amount down you to avoid kidney and bladder issues.

allfalldown47 · 29/07/2020 22:13

@TheHighestSardine Ah, music to my ears!
I can't stand drinking water and love tea so much Grin
I know I must drink enough because I wee regularly and it's always pale, so I must be doing something right!

TheHighestSardine · 29/07/2020 22:46

BrewBrewBrew Sufficient!

AliceinBunnyland · 29/07/2020 22:48

Weigh yourself at roughly the same time every day / week / whatever. I usually weigh myself first thing in the morning before I have eaten but after I have been to the loo Grin

I thought you were going to have the problem I've had twice which is I've weighed myself, got a reading a few lb lower than expected, got on it again a few seconds later and back to what it was! It has happened twice now in the 3-4 weeks I have had the scales

AliceinBunnyland · 29/07/2020 22:52

And yes whilst some drinks are more healthy than others the most important thing is you are having enough liquid, doesn't need to be water, to stay hydrated.
