Has anybody had Earfold done?

I want one (only one sticks out) of my ears pinned. When reading about the op, I came across some thing called Earfold which doesn’t involve an op under general so just wondered if anybody here had it done abd how it worked, any issues etc.

No, but you can have pinnaplasty under local if it’s the GA that’s the issue?

I had pinnaplasty when I was about 7. It was fine. The results were great, no one ever knows. I literally had no folds in my ears at all, they look like normal ears now.

Not the GA I’m worried about but Earfold has quicker recovery time and obviously cheaper so I was interested to hear peoples opinions.

I had my ears pinned back under local anaesthetic with twilight sedation, so i was in and out the same day. It was great, I'd recommend it.

Regarding the Earfold, it looks like a new procedure, that's not suitable for every ear shape, and means you permanently have an implant under the skin of your ear. What if it got knocked or damaged?

For plastic surgery I would advise against ever going for the newest and cheapest option. You'll need your body for a long time, and it's a lot easier to do something right the first time than it is to get corrective surgery later.

@FrancoBranco
How long was your recovery time? I wasn’t aware it could be done under local until I started this thread.

I didn’t think Earfold was that new but I get what you’re saying about the implant permanently being there, I wasn’t aware of that!

The local with twilight sedation was great. I can't remember anything about the operation but apparently I was conscious, just relaxed and sleepy. I was taken into theatre at 11am, out at 12 noon and home by 5pm.

I had bandages around my head for about 10 days, then had to go and have the stitches removed. It only hurt the same day (when the local anaesthetic wore off!) But 24 hours after the op there was hardly any pain, and it never hurt again. If you were working from home you could work after 2 or 3 days, the bandage was the only thing that stopped me from living my normal life. I'd recommend you schedule the appointment for winter time, so you can wear hats!

I'd really recommend it. It's a lot of money, but now i can tie my hair up, or go swimming without worrying about my ears. Plus it's permanent, so my ears are never going to pop back out again. They will be nice and flat for the rest of my life.

Good luck with whatever you choose. Flowers

Thanks @FrancoBranco
One more question please....how much did it cost?

I had my ears pinned back when I was 30. Best thing I ever did for the reasons outlined above - being able to tie my hair up, have it styled any way I want and not having to walk down the street in the wind, looking at the ground so no-one would see how much my ears stuck out I don't know anything about the method you mentioned though. Fwiw mine was about £2k privately but that was about 20 years ago.

FrancoBranco · 28/07/2020 14:51

Mine was about £2500 to have done privately, 14 years ago. If you're only having one ear done then it would be less than that. It was well worth it though, gave me so much more confidence. I could never wear my hair up; I even used to go to the gym with my hair down because my ears were too big to be tied up! I'm surprised I wasn't scalped by the machinery.
