Dead mouse help please...

I’m probably overthinking..but found a dead mouse amongst DD toys today in her room. There were a few droppings which I sprayed with disinfectant before hoovering up.

I then realised that you shouldn’t hoover up mouse droppings...

I’ve pulled all her toys out to clean them, and behind the bed etc will give the room a general clean. The worst part is I have no idea how long it’s been there because she helps “tidy up” after playing, and we just chuck all the toys together really so wouldn’t even know it was there.

We deep cleaned everything about a week ago because she had a friend round.

But is there anything I need to do? Look out for others? Be worried about any potential illness from the mouse/droppings?

What do I do with the hoover now lol!

Definitely overthinking things. You've cleaned the toys and the room so nothing else to do for now. Just keep an eye out for more droppings and don't leave any food lying around.

We've had mice before and nobody's ever caught any diseases so don't worry to much about that.

Why wouldn't you have hoovered up the droppings? What else would you have done with them? Just empty the bin as normal.

Posted before checking:

"too" not "to".
Empty the hoover as normal; not empty the bin.

A couple of months ago we saw a mouse in our house. Whilst trying to find the entry point, we found a different mouse, which was dead. We never saw any more.

TreacherousPissFlap · 27/07/2020 11:13

Why wouldn't you hoover up droppings?

Reedwarbler · 27/07/2020 11:28

Well if it wasn't putrefying or covered in maggots it probably hadn't been there for long. Flies will even find a dead thing indoors in the summer. As a child I put a dead bird I'd found, to bed in my dolls house. I've never got over discovering the hordes of maggots!
Have you got a cat? Just wondered how the mouse got there. There's usually more than one.
Why can't you hoover up droppings? At worse you may get a mousey smell.

clipclop5 · 27/07/2020 11:40

If you didn’t smell it before you saw it it hasn’t been there long. Our cat brings them in on an almost daily basis and we’re still alive! You’ll be fine OP, I would just wonder where it came from though. Do you have a cat?

PapercraftNinja · 27/07/2020 14:40

Thank you everyone! It says not to hoover droppings up because it makes any germs/virus etc airborne.

No cat, no idea how it got in as it’s a new build.

Main concern is I don’t want DD to get ill she’s just 3 and not fussed about dropping snacks and putting them in her mouth! And there were droppings underneath her toys so could have been on stuff she was playing with. It’s pretty rare to get ill from mice and dead mice is it?

@Reedwarbler that’s disturbing haha the maggots I mean!

Please relax. She probably didn't even know it was there or she'd have come and told you. My cat brings in mice and birds constantly. I just scoop them up with a plastic bag and wipe the patch of floor over.

Lookyloo · 27/07/2020 16:02

Oh - my worst nightmare. I know there's nothing to panic about, but I'd be grossed out too. Unlikely there's just one, so you could put traps down, near pipes coming in for radiators and such. The little buggers! I'm worse with spiders!!
