Next school clothes

Hi, does anyone use next for school clothes and can tell me how the quality is?

Bought it all from Matalan and supermarkets last year and it only lasted two or three months so looking to pay a bit more for better quality, which will last longer so I'm not having to buy school clothes every couple of months.

If not next, another similar priced store with good quality?

Thanks

I haven't used Next, but I have bought from this school uniform supplier before and the clothes last all year (I get pinafores for winter, and trousers for PE days, Polo shirts I get from Tesco since they get paint etc on them). For boys, the M&S school trousers hold up well

I've pretty much always bought shirts/polos and trousers from Next and I find the quality very good. Better than supermarket uniform, definitely.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/07/2020 20:25

I always get M&S.
DS1s shorts last for years as shorts are near impossible to grow out of Grin

The t-shirts wash well. White polo shirts and dyspraxia are an interesting combination.

They also have different cuts and button elastic waists.

I have used next for many years. They do slim fit trousers which was essential for my skinny boys. As they got older i found getting teen sizes tricky in the shops so just have continued to use next. I find the quality better than supermarkets.

I’ve been buying my DDs senior school shirts from next for the past two years and I’m very impressed - wash well, last well and for a lot better than M&S which is where I always bought her primary uniform from

Etihad · 26/07/2020 20:27

I get almost all of DD’s school things from Next - it all washes well and lasts for ages. Seems to be really well made and the sizes are pretty consistent too.

Shylo · 26/07/2020 20:28

Of topic I know but M&S boys trousers last forever in my experience so much better value than supermarkets in the long run

jackspratswife01 · 26/07/2020 20:42

I always buy from Next and find shirts last a few years and I pass onto my younger son as well, fits well and easy to order as I use the £20 per year for delivery.

RosieLemonade · 26/07/2020 20:54

Next uniform is not very much more expensive than the supermarkets. I got DD pinafores from there for £8 which I don’t think is anymore than a supermarket.

WingingWonder · 26/07/2020 20:58

My kids have a mix of mandatory uniform (worst quality) Sainsburys and Next
I’ve found the super white Ts the best from sainos, they only stock the colour our school use, and shorts fine
next trousers best fit for us, slim but not drainpipe!

fascinated · 26/07/2020 22:01

They’re good.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/07/2020 22:06

We always get m&s senior boys trousers and next slim fit shirts.

Prefer next shirts for the fit, also the collars are slimmer and look nicer, they always last until ds(16) grows out of them, sometimes more than a year if big to begin with.

ZeldaSmelda · 27/07/2020 08:34

I’ve just ordered M&S stuff for my ds, i usually go for supermarket as well so thought I’d try something a bit more expensive and m&s have Velcro behind the top button which my DS struggles with. M&S have 25% off school clothing at the minute as well which swayed my decision as the price worked out the same as tesco

LadyCatStark · 27/07/2020 08:51

We’ve found it to be great quality.

Indoctro · 27/07/2020 08:58

M&S are definitely the best

LovelyWeekAway · 27/07/2020 09:08

Next is excellent quality
Better even than marks and Spencer’s
Their school trousers are the most expensive at £10 a pair for my DC age but they wash and last very well
More like little suit trouser quality
Polo shorts retain colours and don’t go bobbly

( I’ve bought Tesco / Matalan / M&S etc over the years )

Thank you for your replies!

Can I also ask where you purchase shoes from?

I was planning to go to Clark's but unsure with social distancing etc as her feet would need sized, so unsure of an alternative.

Have ordered some stuff from next (excited to see when it comes 😁) and away to have a look at M&S and pp's links.

RosieLemonade - Only a couple things I seen where similar priced to supermarkets compared with say - £30 for a pack of shirts when you can purchase the same amount of shirts for around £8 from the supermarket.

I prefer Next over the other brands. I returned the M&S trousers as they felt really scratchy and cheap, the Next ones feel much nicer.

AppleBapple · 27/07/2020 09:30

Next polo shirts wash fantastic and keep their colour. Our school colours were black and gold and they never faded. The trousers skinny fit are lovely although the sizing doesn't work for DS. He's Very skinny and long legs. We now order the Asda longer leg trousers and can't rate them highly enough. Wash well, need no ironing and hold up well as DS is very active.

Irre247 · 27/07/2020 10:06

I found next shirts much harder to iron and the collars smaller than m&s so looked odd with clip on ties. Skirts had buttons and zips which was a faff for younger children, overall I prefer m&s for a shirts (non iron if I can get them!) but love the Aldi skirts and pinafores, dirt cheap and wash really well, similar in quality to m&s and better than next in my experience.

Shoes are either Clarks or m&s, I think they are doing appointment fitting at Clark’s.

RosieLemonade · 27/07/2020 10:06

@user6639291748 are these for older children? my DD is only starting this year so might be cheaper as she needs polos rather than real shorts etc.

RosieLemonade · 27/07/2020 10:08

We just walked into our Clark’s. They were happy to measure without an appointment.

AlphaDalpha · 27/07/2020 10:16

M&S is great quality, I still have 20+ year old school shirts and their new stuff lasts well too. A great range of fits for all sizes
