How do you leave a house on completion?

We're completing on our house sale this week and I'm just wondering what condition you would expect to find your house in. I had cleaners do a deep clean of the bathrooms recently, I've deep cleaned the kitchen cupboards and fridge and some walls have been freshly painted and grass has been cut but other than that it's just your average family home, neither filthy nor sparkling. Do I need to do much more than mop and hoover floors and give surfaces a wipe over?

Also wondering if I ought to leave a gift for the new owner. She's an older lady, maybe a bunch of flowers would be nice for her to come home to for the first time?

This house was filthy when I moved in but everyone told me how that was a sign of good luck. More like a sign of manky owners!

We got a be happy in your new home and a bottle of red when we moved in. Very appreciated it was too as we were supposed to get keys at 12 noon but vendor had not finished moving out so we had to wait until almost 5pm and it was dark when we finished unloading lorry. Just hoover and mop floors. Wipe over surfaces. New vendor will do it all again themselves anyway.

I cleaned from top to bottom. With an extra hoover where the furniture had been moved.

My daughter moved recently. We cleaned her flat top to bottom, carpets shampooed, it was perfect. The house she moved into was disgusting. Oven and fridge hadn't been cleaned, things had been literally packed and rubbish left. In the garden was an old mattress and broken furniture stuffed behind the shed.

When we lived into our first house there were unboxed findus crispy pancakes in the freezer, a cellar of broken wood, furniture and appliances. We made them clear it out.

When we moved out we left the house clean, with a bottle of cava in the fridge and a new home card. My mother thought we were mad. When we picked up the keys for our new house the floor was still wet from being mopped and there was a card and a nice bottle of wine on the kitchen worktop.

I'm a little bit odd about cleaning and love everywhere to be sparkling anyway, so when I left our old house it looked lovely, even in places that you wouldn't usually clean. I also left a bunch of peonies, a bottle of wine and a new home card. The buyers were lovely, though, and it was their first home, so I wanted it to feel special for them.

We were lucky that we were able to move out over a few days rather than all in one day, so I spent the last day making sure the old house was spotless. Our new house was spotless when we viewed it but the owners were clearly arseholes and had left weetabix congealed on the kitchen radiator and ripped every curtain rail from the wall, along with every light fitting. If I'd had the energy I'd have gone to their new house and punched them in their arses for how they left it. Fortunately my Dad helped us move and made sure all the electrics were wired in correctly and patched up every wall/ceiling before we had to live here.

It's not a rental.
Basic- empty, swept, vacuumed, bathroom and kitchen clean and ideally cupboards wiped where they are emptied. So that buyer can unpack straight away.

If you have time inclination and money then full on clean windows, skirtings etc. But don't hold up handing over keys because someone is still polishing.

I've yet to move into a clean house Angry. I spend ages cleaning the one I'm selling (or leaving as a tenant) and end up moving into a filthy hole. I even got a cleaner to help me last time. I was gutted when I arrived at the rental-it was shocking how bad it was took loads of pictures to protect me when leaving now way had it been cleaned

So I wouldn't go overboard again. I'd do a final sweep/vacuum and leave toilet clean etc. But having moved into 5 houses in 15 years, and not once has it been even slightly cleanish-I can see most people don't bloody bother.
