What do you do re uniform if you have a rapidly growing child?

It might sound like a daft question but dd age 13 has grown a lot in the last couple of years and she is now bigger and taller than me and her elder sister. She grew out of everything in lockdown.

How do you judge the sizing so that things last? She is currently in the biggest uniform size for the polo shirts and sweatshirts so would need to have them specially made if she goes up a size.

She also needs new trainers which I want to last as long as possible but I don’t know whether to get a size bigger (she will moan if they are not 100% comfortable) Or the size she is now but concerned about the expense (Nike trainers requested) if she grows out of them quickly. She is already in a size 8 shoe.

What do you do re uniform and shoes if you have a rapidly growing child? I didn’t have this problem with my other dd as she she seemed to grow slowly and her shoes would last a whole school year.

Shoes I would buy her exact size, because they will be uncomfortable and potentially damaging if not. Uniform, I buy a size up and hope it lasts the year.

Keep a selection of larger sizes stocked up, try different brands too as they can come up bigger in some places so you get longer wear. It’s hard to keep on top of when they grow so fast, but being prepared is all you can really do and trying to buy the biggest size that fits comfortably for maximum wear.

Is she in secondary? Is she in uniform intended for large 16 or 18 year olds? Surely her feet can't get much bigger, not many adult women are bigger than a 9 at most.

Has she started her periods? I only ask because around that time she is likely to grow both up and out a lot more, but then settle down, maybe 18 months ish later.
Mine went through the 'growing like a weed' phase at 11 and got both v tall and v chubby almost overnight. She has settled down height wise, though weight fluctuates a bit. Shoe size hasn't really moved much over the last year (shes 14) and wears an insole in her smaller foot.

Yes she started puberty quite early and then started growing taller than her peers when she was 10. I was wondering if she would stop growing at about 14.

I have given last year's uniform to 'clothed in kindness' project and will buy new last week of August. My 14 year old is already in 15-16 trousers as he has long legs.

Son 14 is in size 9 shoes.

Try and get cheaper shoes. We’ve been finding Nike sale in the Nike website. Just as well as my 11 yr old’s feet are growing at a ridiculous rate.
