How are the holiday cottage owners getting on?

Hi all,

There were lots of posts just a few weeks ago, worried about going to holiday cottages, how the cottages might be too much risk and the new checkin / check out times were hard going..

We rescheduled our own booking for 4th July as it was too soon for us to feel confident.

Many cottage owners were worried about business, and the business in the tourist locations.

I've played around with a few websites / Airbnb for the end of August to see if we're ready for a long weekend. Not much on offer - which is good to see for businesses.

It looks like the UK locations are thriving - are they?

How's it all going - how are your guests? Are they hard work or grateful for your efforts? I'm really interested to hear.

Well whoever owns the place I'm in is having a laugh as despite extending their cleaning time by 4 hours, the place was a complete state when we were finally allowed in. Food and rubbish on the floor kind of state. And I've got a whole A4 side of things I'm supposed to do before we check out at 9am. At least whatever I do it'll be cleaner than when we checked in Hmm

That sounds bloody awful, @UncleShady - have you taken photos?

Are you booked direct or through an agency?

We've launched air B and B at ours and it's gone mad. Virtually sold out in a morning. We are making sure it's utterly spotless though!

So glad it's going well for you.

Hopefully the 'staycations' will keep you busy.

Agency. The cleaning agency offered to come and clean again, but it was 6.45pm at that point so who knows when they would have actually come and quite frankly I just wanted to get the kids fed.

My holiday cottage is fully booked till the first week of October. I had a late cancellation over a week ago for last Saturday, but it was rebooked very quickly.

I have cleaners that go in on change over days, if they can't go I drive up to do it. About a 2 hour drive. I would be mortified if the place was in a state for the next guests.

Glad you are full, @IckleWicklePumperNickle - looks like UK holidays will be at a premium for some time to come.

We're away now in a self catering cottage and we have another 4 nights booked in 3 weeks. UK based and so far it's been great! We're exhausted, keyworkers, frontline with kids to school and it's been the toughest 4-months!

The effort has clearly been made. We're stripping our own beds and bagging up laundry. Emptying own bins and all games, books extra cushions have gone. Honestly it's brilliant. So nice to be in a different place, lots of lovely outdoor walks and we plan to try and eat out a few times while we're away. Independent places.

Thank you for all your hard work. We're really enjoying the rest.
