If you *had* a bad relationship with food, how did you improve it?

Just that really.

I'm again looking to restart a "healthy lifestyle" I do not have a good relationship with food - never have. My BMI is in the healthy range, but I don't feel healthy at all.

Eat when happy, sad, stressed, excited, exhausted - you name it. And not only that, I crave the unhealthy stuff...not helped by having chronic exhaustion. Coke and cakes/biscuits/chocolate to see me through the afternoon slump.

Any books, Ted talks, YouTube links or strategies?

(I will be in touch with my GP this week to sort out bloods as I have medical ishoos but even so)

Thanks!

Being around people with a "normal" attitude to food helped me.
Also, I don't keep food I'm likely to binge on in the house.
Another thing that helps is buying food that's already divided into portions e.g. small pots of yoghurt not a big one.

I had hypnotherapy. I had a poor relationship with food from being very young. Barely ate anything just never had a hungry feeling. Hypnotherapy as a teenager sorted that out , not instantly but over the years I gradually tried new things and broadened my menu

Brain Over Binge helped me a lot.

Also, somebody very wise once told me that you can think yourself into good eating but you can also eat yourself into good eating. Meaning - even if you aren’t feeling motivated or don’t particularly want to, you can still make a healthy eating plan and stick to it. And the more you do that, even if you’re not perfect, the easier it becomes. Not sure that makes sense but it works for me.
