Pain after cervical smear

Does anyone know how long pain might last after cervical smear? I had mine done on Thursday by a very gentle nurse, felt uncomfortable down below ever since, particularly painful when passing urine, so very similar to UTI.

I've been googling but all it comes up with is -hysterical- women avoiding smears because they're afraid of the pain and how you mustn't do that: nothing about how you actually deal with the pain after you've been for the test.

For what it's worth, I believe I have a tilted uterus (she certainly seemed to have some difficulty in locating the uterus), I've had erosion of cervix flagged up in the past, and I've had a vaginal prolapse. Also, I'm in my mid-50s, post-menopausal but no other problems relating to that.

I usually feel a bit of pain and have some bleeding for a couple of days after a smear. I have a tilted cervix too so it always takes some 'rummaging around' to find it which isn't the nicest feeling!

Thanks. Probably it, then. I'll give it a few more days anyway.

I find the older I get the worse the pain is for the days afterwards- or maybe it could be that I’ve had 3 kids. I don’t know.
I’m actually having one next week.
See how it goes for a few more days and if no improvement call the doctors.

I generally have cramping and bleeding for a couple of days afterwards.

I also have a tilted cervix/uterus. I also get pain. And it's bloody painful when it's done too.

But be aware that a smear does have a very small chance of causing pelvic inflammatory disease because opening the cervix will allow bacteria in if any is around.

I'd say if any signs of temperature or increasing pain call gp Monday.

No advice but sympathy.
Also a little bit smug because I don't have a cervix anymore so never have to have a smear again!
Sorry very unhelpful I know.

Could you have a uti?

CruCru · 25/07/2020 19:46

Yes, I get this. Have you taken some paracetamol?

Thanks, that sounds like good advice from all of you. It's not cramping as much as stinging pain, the kind you get with a UTI.
