Always annoys because they companies telling peopel what the deserve

Perhaps they deserve to live debt free and not always be buying crap
I think this lockdown has helped alotnof people become less materialistic

Perhaps you don't buy the new dress, delete the email and unsubscribe. It's just a mailshot. Some people will deserve the new dress, some won't it matters not.

bluesapphirestars · 25/07/2020 15:02

I hate them too OP!

Yaottie · 25/07/2020 15:03

The things other people get worked up about honestly

Lardlizard · 25/07/2020 15:03

If somebody buys a new dress because a company has emailed saying they deserve it then I am sorry but that's on them.

Nobody is being forced to overspend!

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2020 15:07

I don't like it either. Or the "matey" and colloquial tone that they use.

I was told years ago that a marketer's sole aim is to make consumers feel dissatisfied with what they already have.

Vote with your feet and delete!

CasuallyFeminine · 25/07/2020 15:09

I just delete them. If I buy a dress from an advert it's because I liked the dress and made the decision myself. Nobody forced me to.

The title of this thread confused me before I saw your username, OP.

Lardlizard · 25/07/2020 15:15

It’s ok for me as I won’t but anything unless I really like it, but one of my entendres family members has always struggled with managing money to the point of losing their home etc so that’s why I find these kinda things out of order because some people are swayed by them and think of yes I do deserve a new dress or whatever
Remember the days the banks you’d to send out loan offers, unsolicited saying hey you’ve been pre approved for £x k
And they even used to put little fake cheques in with the junk mail, to temp people into taking out loans for things they don’t need, that’s what i class as irresponsible !

The reason these companies have your email is because you have subscribed or bought from them before though.

You can't rescue people from themselves sadly.

Hotwaterbottlelove · 25/07/2020 17:02

It's the favoured email marketing technique at the moment. Saw a LinkedIn post of someone massively singing it's praises and loads of other marketing professionals falling over themselves to agree. I dared to pipe up and say that I find nothing more off putting than a business trying to tell me what I need, deserve or should love and that it certainly wouldn't work on me. That caused them all to announce that I was the anomaly and so probably not their target audience... fucking idiotic.

Fatted · 25/07/2020 17:07

I was like 'yes I do deserve a new dress' when I got that email today.

But I deleted it and didn't buy one. 🤷‍♀️ All nexts dresses are pretty dire at the moment.

Taytocrisps · 25/07/2020 17:20

Am I the only one picturing a lizard in a new dress?

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2020 18:05

My friend did order a new dress online and a little ad flashed up for her to order a facemask in the matching fabric. That's quite a useful marketing tool though!

Lardlizard · 25/07/2020 19:23

I agree, I hate the psychology of sales and marketing. Although I went to a timeshare sales night once which was so awful it was brilliant.

Lardlizard · 26/07/2020 09:16

Getupagain how did you end up at timeshare sales night ? Wasit one of them competitions

GetUpAgain · 26/07/2020 10:55

Lizard I was poor and they offered 2 bottles of wine for attending! It was almost like a theatre performance, so scripted and staged, so calculating. Fascinating really.

Lardlizard · 26/07/2020 14:30

Oh fair enough 🤣at least you got soemthing out of attending
I’d probably enjoy too in a the same way
