Glass in foot!!!

Argh! Last night I must have stood on a tiny, minuscule piece of glass or china in the kitchen.

I had a tiny cut on my heel which bled for a second. My heel is agony to walk on now. There is no obvious cut, nothing sticking out but the moment I put pressure on it's so painful.

Last night I soaked it in salt water and then covered in savlon before bed. Unfortunately it's still agony this morning.

DH thinks I need to head to minor injuries but I feel that is over reacting. Although saying that, I'm not sure what else to do. Any thoughts?!?!

i would go to minor injuries you don't want it to go septic and walking around it might go further up inside

HeyWaffle · 25/07/2020 10:25

I think I know your right, it just seems such a silly thing! Maybe it's just cut and obviously cuts are sore when you put pressure on... I'm kinda clinging to that thought!

DD has this, they couldn’t feel anything until the x-rayed it, then managed to pull it out.

Magnesium sulphate paste from any chemist. Also known as drawing ointment. Put it on with a plaster on top. Works for splinters too

MogHog · 25/07/2020 10:51

I did the same thing yesterday. Mines a bit sore rather than agony so hoping it will work its way out like they normally do.

Have to say if I was in agony I would be debating going to get it out

EmotionalFlood · 25/07/2020 10:57

Go to MIU, they'll request an X-ray to make sure there isn't a foreign body in there. That's your best option. The longer it's in there the more damage you'll do. We've had lots of these requests over the last few weeks.

Just a wee update.. I went to minor injuries, doctor there was lovely, took her 10 mins with a needle and some tweezers and she got it out! Woohoo! Tiniest little piece of glass I have ever seen, but, the relief when it was out.. wow! Thanks everyone.

Ah, just seen your update, but I was going to say I had the same thing, left it for a few days (to fall out by itself!) and in the end had to go to the docs who basically just dug it out with a sharp object. And it was also the tiniest little shard of glass ever!

lljkk · 26/07/2020 21:33

Due to 1970s barefoot childhood, I'd have had it out with a needle myself, too. Glad you're sorted, OP.

slipperywhensparticus · 26/07/2020 21:36

this happened to my dd the other day but it was sort of sticking out she got it out herself it would have been quicker if i had been allowed to get it out but she is an independent 20 year old now Hmm

Shizzlestix · 26/07/2020 23:23

So glad it came out! I stepped on broken window glass many years ago, 2 pieces rubbing against each other all day in my foot. Oh my god, the pain! I just sat with tweezers and fiddled til they popped out.

worst i have ever known was my sister when young stepped on the inside lid of mums jewellery box which had a mirror on it. when she stepped on it it shattered. i was only young but i know dad had to take her to the hospital
