North facing garden?

Are north facing gardens really that bad? We are considering buying a new build but it has a north facing garden.
I keep reading various things online about north facing gardens when they will & won’t get the sun - I’m confused!

I have a north facing garden but it's long and narrow (Victorian terrace). The patio right next to the house is always in shade but the sun comes over the house before 11am and it's a lovely place to sit until around 6pm when trees get in the way. I like it because there is always shade available on a hot day.
I have the same setup - a north facing garden in a row of terraces. I get a fairly decent amount of sunshine everyday. Plants also grow well - hydrangeas and bay tree in particular.

Surely 50% of houses would have north facing gardens? I can't see how developers would build otherwise.

I have a north facing garden with a new build so not huge or long. In the winter months we don’t get sun on the patio by the house but we do get some at the back of the garden so have put some seating there too. In the summer months we get sun on the patio from lunchtime and the back part of the garden goes into shade, so it means you can either be in the shade or sun.

I previously had a south facing garden and it could be relentless in the sun all day.

I found that a south facing house meant the sun streamed in the window during the day and you couldn't really look out.
The north facing window looked onto a largely sun lit garden, thougth the metre or so near the house was in shade. There are some pluses.
