Cheapest but nicest seaside town to stay?

We are on a budget but really want a little break.
What seaside towns are really lovely but restaurants, hotels etc aren't £££?

You mean a balance of cheapness and niceness? How small is your budget? That might be the best way to narrow things down. Do you definitely want hotel rather than SC or caravan?

delilabell · 25/07/2020 08:51

Llandudno. I've managed to book two nights in a travelodge for Oct half term for £37.00.
Tjere are loads of nice but reasonable restaurants. The beach, the pier, great orme, little shops..
It's lovely!

Bottomplasters · 25/07/2020 08:54

Say in Blackpool but go to beach in lytham

Standrewsschool · 25/07/2020 08:57

Maybe worth posting roughly where you live and how far you are willing to travel.

Kent has a lot of lovely beaches.

margate

Margate - A town which was in decline but is beginning to turn around, hence maybe cheap. Also, Broadstairs and Ramsgate are nearby.

I would weigh up how many hours it is worth sitting in a car for and how much you would spend on petrol.

We travel 30-40 mins to stay in a hotel that is £110 for the night with a three course meal, overlooking the beach.

That £110 is for DD & I per night,

So for us it's way over our budget, but to sit in the car for 30 mins and know it is a beautiful place with amazing food, and childcare, activities, pool, outdoor pool, spa, sauna etc it is well worth it.

Ernieshere · 25/07/2020 09:02

That includes breakfast as well, crazy golf, free use of wetsuits, etc.

littlequestion · 25/07/2020 09:42

Do you mind me asking where that is, Ernieshire?

EatsShootsAndRuns · 25/07/2020 09:50

Butlins at Skeg is open again. Grin

SandysMam · 25/07/2020 09:53

Butlins is more expensive nowdays than a week in the Caribbean!!

ArriettyJones · 25/07/2020 09:56

That sounds lovely @Ernieshere - can you tel is where it is?

ArriettyJones · 25/07/2020 09:56

Juiceey · 25/07/2020 12:00

We went last year, out of season, it was lovely.

A BNB or static caravan type place might be cheaper than a hotel. Also, if you go outside school holidays, they are much cheaper. Which part of the country though?

GinandGobbledegook · 25/07/2020 13:11

Thanks all. I am basically off for a couple of week soon and needed inspiration of where to go.

I don't mind the travel time. We are in the Midlands so easy to get to most places.

A static caravan might be the way to go. That way we can buy food for our own meals some of the nights.

I’ve just been looking at thesun.co.uk/holidays, there were quite a few available (but none to suit me). It’s the £9.50 holidays but based on 4 people so costs £40 minimum, then there might be a booking fee or something. We’ve used them for Cornwall, Wales and Scotland. All were lovely, especially Parkdean(avoid Pontins 💩)
You need seven codes to book, PM me if you want them.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 25/07/2020 13:16

I'd stay at Liverpool and travel down to West kirby and Crosby beach to see the Anthony gormly statues.

You'd also be near to Chester and Southport.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 25/07/2020 13:24

Which is exactly what we're doing.

3 nights in Liverpool docks premier Inn cost £90

Day one will be cat cafe / visit to the world's biggest lush which is great fun.

Day 2 visit to West kirby beach, marine lake and park. Maybe a game of crazy golf and some crabbing. Anthony gormly statues in the afternoon.

Day 3 Chester or southport

Stop off at Blackpool on the way home to use our merlin passes and an ice cream

The wirral has amazing and nice little seaside spots. And is pretty overlooked so doesn't get busy at all.

jellybellydancer · 25/07/2020 13:25

Mumbles in Wales. You could stay in Swansea which isn’t too far away

littlequestion · 26/07/2020 09:45
