How busy is London?

Dd desperate to visit. I'd planned to drove her and a friend down on Sunday.

She's thinking about taking buses to get around. How busy will central London buses be on Sunday? Would you let your dd go?

I went into central London during the week and it looked almost deserted. DH travels into the office some days and there seems to be only several people per carriage (it used to be packed).

Pleasegotosleep01 · 24/07/2020 21:20

It is deserted. Everyone who lives here seems to have gone on holiday too. So super quiet.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 24/07/2020 21:21

Very quiet indeed by all accounts from my various friends who go into the centre every now and then for work. A number of them have been cycling in just to experience the extreme calm and lack of traffic. Am rather tempted to do this myself on Sunday and don't expect to see many people around.

It's lovely - great time to visit and buses will be fine.

annabel85 · 24/07/2020 21:22

Depends if there's a protest on.

cantelope · 24/07/2020 21:27

My slice of SW London was heaving today.

JoJoSM2 · 24/07/2020 21:29

My slice of SW London was heaving today I’m in zone 5 and it’s also busier than central London. I think people are sticking to their neighbourhoods.

SimonJT · 24/07/2020 21:30

Our area of London (Hackney) is very very quiet.

peacockbutterfly · 24/07/2020 21:31

I think the more residential areas (zone 2 + ) are quite busy but Zone 1 is empty.

tenlittlecygnets · 24/07/2020 21:37

Oh, that's positive, thank you.

Central is ultra quiet from what I hear (I am one of the many who would normally be working there but am staying out in the suburbs for now). Wouldn't be surprised if the buses still all move at 5mph now.

I'm sure she'll be fine, just make sure she brings her mask or they won't let her on.

PawPawNoodle · 24/07/2020 22:06

I live in Hackney also and my bit is as busy as ever.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 24/07/2020 22:13

I drive along Oxford street on my way in and out of work each day. It was heaving this evening.

Bloodybridget · 24/07/2020 22:39

I live in Hackney too and it seems busy to me! (Waving at @SimonJT and @PolPotNoodle)

Bloodybridget · 24/07/2020 22:40

But of course Hackney is not central London.

bengalcat · 24/07/2020 22:41

London is fine . Yes I’d let my DD go . As it is we are here anyway .

lurker101 · 24/07/2020 22:42

Central London is very quiet, so quiet that a lot of the usual suspects (pret, M&S food halls etc.) are closed. The buses are running reduced capacity so are quite often showing a sign saying “bus full” the tubes are very very quiet though

lurker101 · 24/07/2020 22:43

It’s a great time to visit places you can’t normally “enjoy” because of crowds. I was one of about 30 people in Fortnum and Mason at the weekend and it was so lovely to be able to walk round in peace without the crowds (obviously terrible for businesses though :( )

tenlittlecygnets · 26/07/2020 19:30

Update: home now! It was pretty quiet. Many shops and cafes closed. Almost all museums closed. Quite a few tourists in places, lots of people sitting at open cafes and restaurants. All wearing masks as necessary. Altogether, a good time to wander!

Buses quiet too.

20k steps later...

Thank you for all the advice! Much appreciated.
