Aldi nursery furniture

Morning all

Has anyone bought any nursery furniture from Aldi?

It's their toddler and baby event starting this weekend but obviously due to the size of the items it's only available online so unable to view them.

Just wondered if anyone can shed any light on the quality of them or any other pros/cons?

Many thanks

We have the cot in the picture you attached. It was purchased 2 years ago and still going strong. Yes it’s MDF, but so is most of the furniture out there. We have just taken the side off to turn into a bed for our daughter and that was very simple. There are a couple of chips now in the paintwork but I think that’s what you would expect from anything MDF and used by a toddler every day. The storage underneath is useful, we keep my DDs clothes that she has grown out of in there.

We have the rockING chair and I love it

WaterWishWash · 24/07/2020 12:22

I have their toddler bed that’s been fantastic. Two years on and hardly a mark in it. No issues with quality.

Thanks @Pregnantandredundant I was a bit dubious but seems it's as good as any out there! Did you get the mattress too? Assume you did?

@LoisLittsLover I can't see that that have a rocking chair this time, Shane as I'd have liked one

@WaterWishWash the toddler bed is in the special buy magazine too which looks great! Not ready to buy that just yet but given your comment i would definitely be on the lookout for it when it comes closer to the time!

DH is Hmm and thinks it will be cheap crap so hopefully your posts persuade him to give it a try - just under £400 for the whole set, does seem too good to be true doesn't it

We didn’t get the mattress. That was something we wanted to spend a bit of money on (though didn’t check out the quality of the Aldi one, it may have been very good!).

The cot is as sturdy as you’ll get with anything. I’m sure it will last long enough for our second to use it as well. I think the only reason not to get the Aldi stuff is if you want solid wood for whatever reason.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/07/2020 13:16

I don't see how it's too good to be true. Ikea sell similar items for similar prices and I'd expect it to be similar in quality, ie more or less indestructable. All looks nice enough in the pictures too.

TangBloodyFastic · 24/07/2020 13:46

@BarbaraofSeville that's what I said to DH as he doesn't mind ikea stuff. I think it's because Aldi don't "specialise" in furniture he's suspicious.

You can get faults with items anywhere doesn't matter if ££ or ££££

@Pregnantandredundant did you struggle to find a mattress to fit? Don't want to spend unnecessarily and Aldi one states conforms to British standards but I also don't want to scrimp on something which is very important when it comes to SIDS

@TangBloodyFastic sorry no advice on the mattresses but Def look for toddler bed when time comes. It’s lovely and low and build in guard rails. My almost 4 year old is still and is 91 centil for height so it’s decent length too.

Your DH is being cautious I suppose. I’d rate is as good as Ikea for similar types. You can always order and return if decide isn’t sturdy enough etc but I think he’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I’d also say don’t feel you need to get nursery furniture as such. All my group got fancy mama and papas or silver cross stuff and it’s all long been replaced. Yes it’s very cute in a wee baby’s room but is it what a 4/5/6 year old needs? I got a cot for my eldest only (mainly space issue as in one bed then!) then when we moved to our home and she finally has own room she was 2.5 so she got an Ikea bed and their furniture. It’s aged well as still looks appropriate for a 7yr olds room. With my second I almost went down the nursery furniture route but decide to get the same Ikea furniture and just a cot which I replaced with the Aldi toddler one eventually. Again furniture still going strong and appropriate looking in a 4yr olds room.

Sorry I know you didn’t ask about that but thought worth mentioning. I know lots like nursery furniture but just something to consider as it’s not actually a need as such. I never had a changing table either. I found I was mostly downstairs in daytime so had a changing mat I kept down there. Upstairs either in bathroom or my own bedroom where I put towel and warerproof changing mat on my own bed and I usually sat on bed too to save my back leaning. Was comfort easy and baby never on high dresser type thing. Each to their own but worked really well for me. Something to consider. A lot of baby equipment isn’t actually needed.

Thanks for response @WaterWishWash
I've only just seen your reply and actually ordered the nursery set yesterday from Aldi. For the price that it is, I'm hoping we can then use it again should we have another (hoping so) in the not so distant future. If not keep it in good enough condition to be able to sell it again to put towards a full size wardrobe/chest of drawers
Let's see what it's like when it arrives next week!
Can't wait to get cracked on with the nursery now Grin
