Any dentists around? V quick question re extraction

I had a wisdom tooth out on Monday morning (not a full size one - apparently I'm unusual in that my wisdom teeth are all tiny little 'peg' teeth - so not at all traumatic and done in seconds). It's healing well. Dentist told me as part of the aftercare stuff to avoid coffee and carbonated drinks for a few days to allow the clot to settle - I haven't had ANY CAFFEINE since 7am on Monday and I am having serious withdrawals! What counts as a 'few days' - is it ok to have a cup this morning, and a few beers tomorrow evening? And diet coke. Oh how I fancy a diet coke.

Also when does the threat of dry socket pass? I had one last year and it pretty much killed Christmas so I'm VERY keen to avoid a repeat (the dentist then didn't tell me to avoid coffee etc, so I didn't, which may have played a part in the DS).

TIA Flowers

You can drink coffee and alcohol

Normally I just say avoid hot drinks and alcohol for 24hrs to prevent bleeding, by now the clot will be well established

Dry socket usually appears days 3-7, after 7 days if you havent had it then its very unlikely to hapen, but with a small upper wisdom tooth the risk of dry socket is bery small regardless. Theres no point worrying about it till it happens

@DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon oh my goodness I could actually kiss you!

My last dry socket happened after about 10 days, the dentist I saw said he'd never seen one occur so late. It was a horribly traumatic extraction though. I was going to the local dental hospital and being seen by the fourth year students - usually they're very good, but it was my student's first ever extraction and she was so nervous her hands were shaking. It took about an hour for her to get he tooth out! Went back to see her a week later and she pulled something out of the socket - she said it was food but I'm inclined to think it was the clot, given I was diagnosed with DS a few days later. Needless to say I've gone to a different dentist this time!
