Has anyone made their own face masks?

I've been given a sewing machine so wondering whether to make some face masks myself.

I've read that old pillowcases and duvet covers are OK material to use. Are 2 layers on this all I'd need, with a filter in the middle?

I just made one out of an old t-shirt following instructions on youtube. Really easy.

I have been making masks in aid of the local food bank.
Poly cotton bedding-type material is fine.
A good rule of thumb is that you should not be able to blow out a candle through a mask. Obvs they need to be easy to wash and dry, and a hot steam iron will sanitise them.
After spending ages watching videos I have been making this design, with slight adaptations. You cut our rectangles, so it's economical on fabric, and only sew straight lines, so it's simple work.

I have made them with three layers, from some old shirts of DH's, but there's no room for a filter (I think that's a bit beyond my skills!).

I have found that high thread count pillow cases are excellent , over 200 thread count ideally. 2 or 3 layers is still easy to see and by carefully cutting you can avoid unnecessary seams.
