Kilbrahan and Glasgow Airport flight path

Hi everyone,

We are looking to move to the villages on the south outskirts of Glasgow/Paisley. We are particularly keen on Kilbrachan and Lochwinnoch. The thing that concerns us is noise pollution from the new Glasgow Airport Flight Path.

Obviously at the moment with there being a huge reduction in the number of flights it is hard to tell what the noise levels would normally be like. Does anyone live in the area and is able to let me know?

Many thanks.

Lochwinnoch is better, they come in and out over Johnstone/ Kilbrachan, pretty low. The flights are starting to ramp back up over the coming days, the biggest one at the moment is Emirates, but only in and out once a day in the afternoon.

Sorry I don't have an answer, but try posting on the Scotsnet part of MN. Somebody there is bound to know. (It's in 'Other Stuff'.)

Download the Flightradar24 app and look at the planes coming and going. Download the Glasgow airport app too and you can count them.

I’m at the other side of the airport so I mostly get planes landing.

You would mostly get planes taking off.

When the land they come down low for ages on a gradual descent. By the time they get to me they are 1000 feet. You have to shout or pause your conversation if outside. It’s bad.

However when the planes take off they head straight up and are double that height over me (when the wind changes and I get them taking off my way). So if you follow a plane over ‘your’ house on flightradar and it’s higher than say 1700 feet it won’t be a conversation stopper!

Id say you’re at the better side of the airport re noise.

There are sound wave maps on one of the various sites about such things and you can see how many decibels they are over your intended house. They were talking about free double glazing for the worst affected areas. Whether that will materialise or not though...

Pre Covid the planes started landing here from 5am and stopped landing about 2am. So you get used to the noise as you’re only without it for 3hours a night. However I’m not sure what they are like taking off sorry. Perhaps someone can advise from memory as things are different now.

During the day mid summer they can be landing every three minutes. It’s a lot. I frequently had to pause the tv as I couldn’t hear the programmes if I had a window open. But again you wouldn’t be affected so badly most days, only when the wind changes and they are landing at your side instead of taking off.

That's really useful, thank you. I'm just nervous about moving somewhere quiet to get out of the city (we are currently in the Southside of Glasgow) to actually find that we can't relax in our garden due to constant planes....

I've posted it to the Scotnet group too. Thanks for the tip!
