What is your summer with primary aged DC looking like?

Just realised I’m kind of dreading it. How are you making your children’s summer feel different to their/ your lockdown experiences.
Mine have been in school since June (KW) but they’re off with me for six weeks from tomorrow.
Lots of bike rides and dog walks on the cards. Maybe all day picnics. Hopefully the weather will stay nice for paddling pool and they’ll get on well enough to play together.

It just doesn't seem like the summer holidays to me.
I will be doing similar to what you have listed. Trying to be out and about a lot. I'm hoping to visit the local farm with them too.
No holidays booked so it will all be local day out activities.

Mine have already finished for the holidays. We’ve been to the zoo, we’re going to a big park today, to a farm park on Friday etc. Got a week away booked in August (UK). Picnics at parks, bike rides, meeting friends outside etc. Not much different to normal summer holidays really except that they’re usually in holiday clubs while I work for a few weeks and there are non available in our area this year so I’ve had to wind down my business instead.

Ours will look almost identical to the last 4 months as I still have to work (from home) and DH works 6 days a week. So a pretty shite summer ahead for us all. Week in Portugal was cancelled. Nothing rebooked in its place. Might try for a few days somewhere else but it’s all so expensive for what it is. I feel like my kids have already had their summer break and would gladly send them to school for August!!

Mine will feel quite normal I think.

His dad will take him away in a caravan next week and I'll take him Glamping at the end of the holidays. I've booked one day at a sports camp. We'll do local adventure centre, farm park and zoo. Meet up with grandparents for long walks. Maybe try inviting one or two friends round. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm working (not from home) so mine is going to family and friends most days, and holiday club which is open near me. He's been stuck with just me since March as I've been on furlough so he can't wait to spend some time away from me Grin

We are working for some of it. I may take some more time off.
It’s going to be hard especially as we don’t have options for summer childcare.

DD is a swimmer, her club managed to get a spot at the local Lido for training but it's very late so she'll be sleeping in alot. An outing a week, a visit with her best friend a week, exploring our local area as we aren't going on holiday now but lots of beaches we haven't been to where we live.

Our experience of lockdown was OK, more screen time / roblox than I would have liked but she was talking to her bestfriend and it kept her busy while I worked. I've broken up for summer too so cutting down on screen time is a biggy getting ready to go back to 'normal'

Ours is going to be similar to lockdown. Some school work every now and then. Summer Reading challenge on line.
Some days out.
Trips to parks, bike rides, picnics, films and gaming.

Same here. Have been to some NT places already and done 2 Treasure Trails. Going to do another one today by the coast. He did about an hour of schoolwork yesterday too.

It was really stretching out in front of me so I booked loads of stuff and now we barely have a day free!
Got a weeks holiday in Norfolk (feel so happy and grateful I booked that last year - it was a toss up between that and Florida!!)
Long weekend camping with friends.
Couple of BBQs booked in with friends and their children.
Found a local holiday club and booked them in once a week for three weeks.
I work two days a week so they go to childminder/grandparents for that.
Just got the last couple of weeks to fill now.....

Hi. Yesterday it dawned on me that the holidays are upon us and I don't know what we're going to do to make it feel different. I have a teenager and a 5 year old so finding things to do to suit them both is difficult! I'm trying to convince my husband to think about a short UK break but he doesn't seem keen and can't really see why I'm dreading the next six weeks! Any tips for things to do with a big age gap would be appreciated. Smile

Beach.
Picnics.
Hikes in the mountains.
Sleepovers here and at friends' houses.
Playdates.
Beach.
Dog walks.
Beach.

No clubs open here. We do one hour of schoolwork per day (maths, science, geography, telling the time, word searches, logic etc) and reading. He's been on holiday since 19th June (Spain) not back until 14th September.

Did I mention beach? Grin

We're having dh's godson for a sleepover tonight, we'll be going to the beach around 8pm and having dinner down there, possibly with another friend of ds'.

DS has also had a lot of Minecraft and Roblox in the last 4 months, driving me nuts!
