This has been on our to do list for years and I really need to do it. It won't be a complex one but would like to know its in place.

Honestly, I would always see a solicitor. Cheap wills are exactly that - you very much get what you pay for.

I have a horror story from a relative who wanted to split everything between various nieces and nephews except 2 (that had drug issues). One of these will writing firms got it arse about face and the two with drug issues inherited everything. Luckily the relative was switched on enough to check before singing it but not everyone does and it would have been a complete disaster. At least if a solicitor messes it up badly they carry huge insurance

My partner belongs to Unite, they do free mirror wills. Ours weren't complicated. Any thing complicated and we'd pay a good solicitor.

Depends how complicated your situation is. We have a very simple family and financial set up, so went to a local will writer, £200 for a pair of mirror wills. He came to our house to take instructions, then we called a friend over to be a witness when he brought them back a week later.

We didn't need any advice tho - I'd have gone to a solicitor for anything even mildly complex - ex partners, step children etc etc

I just got a will form from WH Smith and had a couple of neighbours witness my signature. If things aren't complex then that's probably enough.
