I have just fished a tiny shrimp out of my bath

Pretty much as the title says... where the fuck has it come from Confused

I rinsed the bath out with the shower as I usually do before I started running it so it deffinatley wasnt there. Has it actually come out of the tap?

Its about half a cm long, has a bit of a tail and two little ear prongs, very much alive and swimming. Sort of looks like a sea money but I dont think that's what it is.

I was quite looking forward to a bath, it's been a long day, but I wasnt keen on having company so I've had a shower instead.
tries to block out the thoughts of the little fuckers potentially coming out of the shower head

This might be a silly question, but where would I find the water tank if we have one ?

I think we're on mains water (is that what it's called, yorkshire water if it makes any difference), and our landlady pays the water rates for all four houses that are on our row.

DP has declared it is a millipede, doesn't look like any milipede I've ever seen. I suggested a PP's suggestion of naming it, SD has been begging for a pet for months, but hes not keen.

I found something similar in the toilet at work and wondered if it had come through in the water or dropped into the bowl from the ceiling.

I don’t have a water tank either. I had one in the house I grew up in and it was in the loft.

Shizzlestix · 19/07/2020 22:22

My water tank is in the loft. One time, a cockroach came out in pieces. We did a legionnaires test whereby we flushed the tank, made sure it had a cover etc.

TimeWastingButFun · 19/07/2020 22:24

Is it a baby centipede?

PenelopePitstop49 · 19/07/2020 22:26

If you've got a gravity fed heating system, you'll have a water tank in the roof and a cylinder in your airing cupboard. Our water was really smelly and horrible, and the DC got upset stomachs.......... turned out the cover had come off the water tank and a pigeon was slowly rotting in it.

We had a combi boiler put in pronto.

Ask your LL and get it checked.

PhoneLock · 19/07/2020 22:27

I'd agree with the mosquito larvae identification. I've seen them in water butts.

Whatever it is, kill it!

KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!

Make an example of it to stop others forcing their way up your plughole.

Call the rspca.

I never understand this kind of attitude. It's definitely easier to just leave home and never return. Write a note for your children and loved ones by all means but just walk out and leave Leggy the sea monster to think about what he's done and the lives he's ruined.

incognitomum · 19/07/2020 22:39

Ewww that's gross.

Imagine finding one in your cuppa

Sgtmajormummy · 19/07/2020 22:40

My first thought was mosquito larvae.
They lay their eggs in any stagnant water so ponds, bird baths, even plant pot saucers.
We once went to view an empty flat to rent (Italy) with a dripping bath tap. The 2cm deep puddle was WRIGGLING with them.
We hot-footed it out of there!

WhereAreAllTheTeaspoons · 19/07/2020 22:40

I moved out of my last home because there was too many spiders. I have no qualms about moving to escape bath shrimps. I'll probably take my loved ones with me though, the situation isnt so urgent yet that I have to leave with only the clothes on my back. that may change if I turn the tap on and there is an army of them

BitOfFun · 19/07/2020 22:48

Do you think it might be due to a recent spate of seamonkeys being released into the sewage system?

notangelinajolie · 19/07/2020 22:50

Do not drink the water. And move

MitziK · 19/07/2020 22:52

@notangelinajolie

Drinking water comes from the rising main, so won't be contaminated - it's the cold water feed from the tank that goes to the hot taps via immersion/boiler that's been affected.

Means the landlord needs to get somebody up into the loft to check the tank cover, as otherwise, you could have all manner of nasties up there.

BillBaileysBum · 19/07/2020 22:53
  1. Any chance it came in through a window?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 19/07/2020 22:54

We used to get those in our old house - there was a cold water tank in the loft. We also once had a wasp infestation up there and bits of mangled wasp came out through the taps!

JammyHands · 19/07/2020 22:57

I stayed in a holiday let in Scotland in my teens and the water was full of little shrimp things.

squirrelsbizaar · 19/07/2020 22:57

Was it swimming in the water. Presumably if it’s comfortable (doing something) not dead, then it is of the water, rather than a bug that just fell in the bath.

FrangipaniBlue · 19/07/2020 22:58

@userxx

I'm sure someone on here the other day was going to flush her sea monkeys down the loo......
I thought of this too!! 🤣🤣
Whatthebloodyell · 19/07/2020 23:05

Looks like some kind of nymph.

PigletJohn · 19/07/2020 23:17

Put your thumb on the spout of the tap. Turn the water on. Can you hold back the flow of water with your thumb?

Test the hot and cold separately.
