North Norfolk Beaches

Hi, we are off to Norfolk in a couple of week. We always go to Wells beach but I am keen to explore some other beaches in the area. We have two boys, 5 and 8. Keen for traditional bucket and spade experience that’s well organised with reasonable parking, toilets, somewhere to get coffee etc, beaches in the middle of nowhere miles from the nearest ice cream don’t really appeal. No dog but happy with dog beaches.

Normally we’d be a bit more spontaneous but we are wanting to book restaurants and things and ok current climate we probably need to get a plan in place of where we are going to be each day.

Thanks so much

I've heard Holkham is suppose to be good.
I have to say that for beautiful white sand you can't beat Gorleston beach. There are literally 5 shops, a pub and a well designed toilet block next to it. The kids happily spend all day there and if you go the concrete walkways there's plenty of crabs you can catch too.

No idea I'm afraid, but we're off to Norfolk in a couple of weeks and would love some ideas too! My DCs are older teens, but still enjoy a sandcastle and ice cream Smile

Heacham is lovely, it's quiet there too as not as many tourists but there's toilets & at least 1 kiosk/cafe

Hunstanton is also lovely but with lots of shops, arcades etc.

caveat, I haven't been recently so I don't know what is open

Currently in Cromer. Beach was gorgeous yesterday and not packed. There are dog free sections. Cromer town very busy though and difficult to social distance. Parking was busy. Of the car parks, meadow by tourist info is a short walk away. There are two closer at the top of the cliffs but still a walk if you want to avoid steps up and down cliffs. Most promenade facilities open for food and ice cream. And the pier is open too. Smile

We are off to Bacton later in the week for a change of beach and to meet up with family.

Hunstanton is lovely, Heacham also

West Runton has amenities ; buckets and spades and rock pools
Mundesley is sandy, Lois / cafe / parking. ; old fashioned vibe and good swimming .
Cromer is more pebbly; park in town centre car park and walk but agree narrow pavements mean distancing is tricky.

Following! Smile

Mundesley is a good beach with facilities
Lifeguards, cafe, toilet, the car park is close to the beach.

ureterr1blemuriel · 20/07/2020 10:44

West Runton is close and has decent parking, toilets, a cafe and a sandy beach one side and rock pooling on the other. It’s quite a discreet road so check out google maps first. We love it there.

Holkham is stunning but huge, so you have to walk a long way. There is a lovely wooded play area in the grounds of Holkham Hall (opposite side of the road) I’d really recommend. You just pay for parking and can explore the grounds too.

If you fancy an adventure my DC (same ages as yours) love the salt marshes at Stiffkey. There’s no amenities there but you have to navigate muddy creaks to get to the deserted sandy beach. Check tide times first though as you can get stuck!

Old Hunstanton is naice if you are driving that far around you.

Have a fab holiday!

Cromer or Sheringham for sure. I've been going there for 25 years.

bloodywhitecat · 20/07/2020 11:15

Brancaster? If you turn left when you get on the beach you can wander down to a small inlet where there are often seals playing.

Sea Palling is a lovely beach.

Holkham but not sure how close to the beach the loos are.

AnneBullen · 20/07/2020 13:27

Thanks everyone this is fab!!

@bloodywhitecat Thank you so much for your tip about seals at Brancaster. We took a walk along the beach yesterday and found about 20 seals lying just in front of us - amazing!

Gohackyourself · 10/08/2020 19:22

Brancaster staithe is fantastic - also titchwell and cley.
Holkham is great too.
Tbh if you followed the coast road via Heacham ( from kings Lynn) there’s lots of places to stop from water inlets the kids can paddle in to open large beaches
