Getting shopping delivered to your holiday house

Anyone done this?

We're going away in August in UK and I thought I'd get a delivery to arrive the evening we arrive. am usually an Asda customer.
I just tried it on the website, and it let me put in a different delivery address, but it didn't tell/ask me which store it is coming from.

I am reluctant to book anything in case it then says 'can't do it from this store.'
Am I being stupid? Do they just do it from the nearest one?
I'll obviously need to find out which supermarket is closest/
Boring question I know.
Thanks

They will do it from whatever one they usually do orders to that address from. Don’t overthink it, it’s a totally normal, sensible thing to do.

AvoidingRealHumans · 19/07/2020 14:45

Once you put the new delivery address it sets the nearest store as the one that provides the shopping so if you have put the address in and it shows deliveries as available then you will get your delivery

Hi Steppemum, I’ve done this countless times, even to some really rural cottages that took us a while to find them, they were so remote. I use Tesco but I’m sure it will be fine.

mineofuselessinformation · 19/07/2020 14:46

Yes, I've done it.
The only thing I'd say is make sure you plan it for at least an hour after you're due to arrive so you don't have to worry if you're delayed.

beela · 19/07/2020 14:46

Yes we always do, it's fine.

If you are worried you could look up the closed supermarket and do a click and collect, then just stop there on your way.

EggysMom · 19/07/2020 14:48

We've done this, using Tesco; but I generally arrange the delivery for early the following morning so that I'm not stressed if we hit traffic jams on the way to the holiday home. Either I take enough food for that first evening & breakfast, or we pop to a local shop for essentials.

BikeRunSki · 19/07/2020 14:49

I do this all the time with Tesco with no problem. I usually do it for very late on the day we arrive or very early the next day, just in case we are delayed.=

steppemum · 19/07/2020 14:52

Thanks all.
I will find out which supermarkets are closest and book with them.

That's assumign there are any delivery slots of course!
We're making a day of it on hte way down and not arriving til afternoon, so I don't want food sitting in the car.

I've done this many times with Ocado. Sometimes I couldn't put the full address as didn't know the lodge number until we got there....but there were comments to explain this.

Tips- do it for 2 hours after check in just in case of delays.
Don't over estimate the size of the fridge if.you haven't been to the accommodation before. (Caravans often have miniscule freezer box that doesn't work and a small fridge)
Don't order food for every day as you might want to eat out locally.
Still take oil, salt, sugar, cling film etc with you.

rookiemere · 19/07/2020 14:53

Yes I've done it a few times. All I'd say is don't over order. It's tempting to put in your usual weekly shop, but it's nice to leave a few gaps for buying meat from local butchers or having a meal out.

drspouse · 19/07/2020 14:56

I have to say I'm really confused by the OP!
Do you think they are delivering from your home store?
Anyway we get Waitrose delivery when on holiday (because we can't normally get it) and it came from the local really small shop that had none of the DCs' favourite cereal (but they survived).

steppemum · 19/07/2020 15:11

I have to say I'm really confused by the OP!

I expected them to ask which store.

I've done it many times, no problem at all. The online shop platform will tell you if there's availability issues once you put the address in

No, you just put in the address you want it delivering to. Where it comes from it the supermarket's problem. They'll tell you if they don't deliver to that postcode.
DrinkFeckArseGirls · 19/07/2020 15:54

Sometimes they food comes from the warehouse, sometimes from the local store depending which supermarket. I think you’re overthinking this OP, you place the order and they decide which store to source it from.

ZarkingBell · 19/07/2020 15:55

I've done it for years. Why would I care which branch it came from? Mind you, most of the places I visit don't have a wide choice of supermarkets!

drspouse · 19/07/2020 16:00

I expected them to ask which store.
But they won't ask when you have it delivered to your home?

OnceUponAPotato · 19/07/2020 16:02

You don't need to know which store it's coming from and it doesn't matter which is closest. Your normal delivery isn't necessarily from your closest store, just the closest one which is set up for online orders. It will tell you if they can't deliver.

icedaisy · 19/07/2020 16:06

I don't even know which store delivers my home shopping.

Email the owners and ask where best for delivery?

Appletoffee · 19/07/2020 16:14

I do this - I don’t think it matters where it comes from. It is utterly brilliant and makes the holiday so much easier. Agree with PPs that you need to be careful re size of fridge and meal-plan carefully with some gaps to buy local/ eat out, too.
