Anyone beat impostor syndrome? How?

I've been approached about a possible vacancy coming up in the next few months. It's more senior than my current role and a considerably shorter commute. I have two pre school aged children. Vacancies don't come up often, so I'd be mad not to go for it, right?

But I just feel like I haven't the experience. I've worked in the industry for 13 years, but only in this specific area for one year. The person who has spoken to me about the job has worked with me before for several years in a few different roles within the same company.

I'm worried that it'll be a competitive field and I won't get it, and not only that but my colleagues will think me daft for even thinking I could do it. It's a small place, so everyone will know.

If you've experienced similar doubts, how did you overcome them?

Knowing about imposter syndrome is a good start.

I advertised a job recently with a lot of emphasis on diversity in the advert and I know there is roughly an equal number of men & women among the likely applicants. I got 9 men applying and 1 woman, and many of the 9 men were under qualified.

So all you can do is go for it & remember that there will be men with less qualifications or experience compared to you.

I have. I'm a week into my new job... it's terrifying and awesome. I'm also a bottle of red in. If you're happy, I'll pm you tomorrow
