Toddler diarrhoea, intolerance or something more complicated?

My 2 year old does at least one poo a day but pretty frequently (at least every three days at the moment) does three poos a day, the first of which is generally formed and dark, then progressively looser until the third is vomit smelling and full of undigested food (it's not watery like actual diarrhoea, I don't think it's particularly greasy and it's semi formed usually just softer and looser)

We have periods like this for a few weeks every few weeks, and then what feels like a more healthy period of just one formed one a day

When she was a baby (exclusively breastfed) from a very young age I noticed most poos were quite acidic smelling and often included mucous. She also had a couple of episodes of blood tinged mucous at about four months and then again at a year old. On each occasion I saw GP who went off for unremarkable reducing substances tests and at four months I also paid for a private consultation with a specialist who said CMPA. I followed dairy and soy free absolutely religiously for several months which made little difference overall although her poos did seem to improve with time before suddenly deteriorating at one (although actually I think that particular occasion was a stomach bug which led to temporary lactose intolerance as it did pass)

She'll then have perfect poos again mostly for a couple of weeks or so and then back to the frequent rapid transit days.

We did the milk ladder etc and it really seemed to make no difference and our GP said if she did have CMPA she'd probably outgrown it.

I've looked into "toddler diarrhoea" as a common disorder and how to help it. She doesn't ever have fruit juice and I think she does eat a reasonably high fat diet. I follow the recommendations for that really carefully.

I've contacted GP again who has said up to three a day is normal and if anything it's just toddler diarrhoea and reiterated these nutritional recommendations. I feel like it might just be an immature gut but it doesn't seem right (the vomit acid smell and rapid transit) and I'm concerned about it being detrimental to her overall.

She's following her curve mostly although I think she's dropped a centile line in last six months or so (25th to 20th) and no other symptoms at all.

We also give her vitamin D drops and an infant probiotic.

I can scrape together the money for another private consultation and maybe tests but I'm not sure what to think really! GP said toddler diarrhoea common and not a concern but I'm just worried in case there is more to it.

Afraid I can't help much but had to post as my DD (18 months) had exactly the same thing today. Three poos that became progressively less normal. This was her second episode within a week and I'm also puzzled whether it's toddler diarrhoea or something else. I noticed that it happens after she's been particularly active, both times after an exceptionally energetic session at the playground. Exercise does stimulate the gut and she might drink more afterwards as well which might have contributed.

She's totally normal otherwise so at the moment I'm chalking it up to toddler gut maturing issues. Basically any faster transit poo is going to smell a lot worse, but it doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong. I get IBS flares and the gut cramps are purely mechanical/caused by stress but the smell is still terrible.

Hi just wondering how your LO is doing now? I have had similar issues with my 22mo and was looking for advice. Thanks
