Where to stay in North Norfolk? (Not Hunstanton)

Where would be your fave purity places to stay when in North Norfolk?

We have been a few years ago and the only thing I do know is I didn’t like Hunstanton

But I’ve heard such good things about Norfolk as an area that there must be lovely places there

I love north Norfolk too, all the villages mentioned are lovely but it depends what you want. If you want a sandy beach you will need to get in the car and drive from most of the places mentioned. I spent ages looking for a last minute break by the beach this summer and have ended up booking ....a caravan in Hunstanton

I was going to say not Blakeney 😳 we found the locals very rude, it was massively expensive and parking was a nightmare. However a tiny little fair arrived whilst we were there which was very friendly.

Northrepps or anywhere within 10 miles of Cromer.

Mrskeats · 17/07/2020 20:53

I love Blakensy.
North Norfolk is a lovely place (Aha!)

I sit corrected Grin youd think I'd know that seeing as I've lived here all my life.Grin

Unfortunately the bookshop in Holt is shut at the moment, though I understand it will re-open later in the year in new premises and under new management.

Did you want somewhere like Hunstanton but nicer? Cromer, Sheringham, Mundesley are seaside resorts, listed in order of size. They’re better than Hunstanton and Yarmouth but not amazing, though they have a certain low-key charm, if you’re happy with an old-fashioned, ungentrified, bucket and spade, fish and chips on the prom type of holiday. The amusement arcades are all shut. The cafes and gift shops are starting to re-open in a tentative way.

Blakeney, Wells, Holkham, and a lot of the other places mentioned by PPs, are attractive coastal towns/villages but not resorts. Blakeney doesn’t have a beach, Wells and Holkham do, but a good walk away from the town/village.

If you give us a bit more info about what you are looking for, we’ll be able to give you better advice.

What about Old Hunstanton? Completely different vibe to new Hunstanton. It is also our local (ish) beach. Love it up there.

redeyetonowheregood · 18/07/2020 00:26

Holt...Sheringham...lovely area. We live in Norfolk and I literally can't wait for my leave in a couple of weeks to head up to Breck Farm with our caravan.

Wells next the sea for a small town next to a lovely beach

mornington2020 · 18/07/2020 12:41

Blakeney though expensive.

.
Oh yes of course it is. Anyway, Holt is a town and probably not what the op is looking for but there are coastal places very near.

I like all the places you've mentioned! Actually love them

Burnham Overy Staithe has come into my mind.

I have a flat in Wymondham up for sale at the moment; my husband's firm was up there which is why we bought it but don't need it now.

Whattheduck · 18/07/2020 13:10

Personally I like Hunstanton
We have a holiday home in Heacham
My favourite beach is Brancaster

barcodescanner · 18/07/2020 15:03

We stay in a lovely cottage in Stiffkey. Walk on the salt marshes and venture off to see the seals.

Fyzz · 19/09/2020 17:12

Is Mundesley nice? Looking at a quick couple of days for two of us.

Elderflower14 · 19/09/2020 17:28

Wells Next The Sea definetly.. I went there with my late DH when we got engaged...
I lay on the beach and ended up with a second degree burn right down my right thigh... Agony!!
It was so romantic(not!!)
DH rolled over in the bed and I hissed at him not to touch or come near me!!
I got the cushions from the sofa and put them down the middle of the bed... 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁

I like Hunstanton. In fact we were just speculating if it was too late to go get fish and chips on the beach and watch the sun go down (we're an hour and a half away- so sadly yes it is!).

If not there, then Brancaster - we've staying in a nice place in Brancaster Staithe before, coast path walks, kid friendly pub nearby - grown up pub a little further walk - drive to beach though.
There's a campsite at Burnham Deepdale which is a nice location. Longer walk to the kid friendly pub.

There's lots of other nice seaside towns up there but plenty of good advice on this thread.

You could always try Southwold or Aldeburgh in Suffolk.

PrincesseDeLamballe · 19/09/2020 17:46

I lived in the area for a few years as a teen. I lived Cromer (we've just had a mini break there to show the kids the places I used to go) but we also had family in Overstrand and there's a lovely pub with rooms there called The White Horse.

Walcott Gap is a beautiful place but always really windy (like a lot of the coastal towns I guess).
