If you've been WFH since lockdown, how much have your bills increased by?

Me and DH have been WFH since mid March. Our gas bill has increased by 20% and electricity by 30%. Not surprising at all, but I wondered how that compared to others?

We’ve not had a bill yet but I’m dreading it!

We both used to be out of the house 12 hours a day 5 days a week and now we are both wfh and cooking at home 90% of the time too, I dread to think how much it’s increased.

I submit my meter reading every month normally and I’ve found that we are spending an extra £10 a month on electricity.

Gas bill is fine.

The electricity bill is hideous. 4 people online all the time working from home. Not that the teen does much working.

Haven’t reviewed but the amount spent on biscuits and erroneous baking has been terrifying!

We've got a smart meter. It's almost what it would be in the winter with heating on full.
I'm hoping it'll drop with home schooling stopping but tech time will probably increase whilst dh and i try to wfh.
Can't even use the Inland Revenue scheme to claim tax back as I'm part time and don't earn enough. Confused

FizzyPink · 17/07/2020 11:10

We have a prepayment meter. Gas is basically the same as I haven’t had the heating on at all but electricity is almost double what we were previously spending.

Did you know you can claim it back through your tax? It's a small amount but I am doing. The ICAEW released a statement on this :)

@sunshinewhereareyou that’s very helpful. Thank you. I do an annual tax return so will certainly be building in these incidental costs. More concerned about what happens in autumn / winter when the temperature drops and we’ve got central heating on 7 days a week.

I'm a one person household so not much if an impact. I reckon my electricity has gone up by just under 10%

I'm saving £110 per month in travel costs so am much better off at home
