Are online supermarket deliveries back to normal now?

I've been braving the supermarket once a week, it's pretty hideous queuing, being shouted at by stressed out staff, people not following the one way system, not being able to take the dc, etc. Not to mention horribly expensive without the deals etc on.

I've no loyalty to anyone so have had deliveries from most supermarkets over the years, so am on their mailing lists. I've had several emails in the last week advising that they have slots for the non needy etc, business as usual.

How are you finding it? Are you getting the same level of freshness / subs as pre Covid? I tried to do an Asda order but even as I was in the app it was telling me that lots of things it had allowed me to add weren't available etc.

I don't want it to be even more stressful having a delivery than it is going to the shops in person, so any experiences would be great to know.

It's getting better in my area, it was impossible to get a slot during lockdown days but now there's some decent ones in a few weeks ahead.

However with facemasks now being mandatory in shops, other people like myself may not want to go in for their shop, spending an hour with the stress you mentioned AND wearing a mask, no thanks, so may revert back to online deliveries. I'm getting them booked in as much as I can. 👍

I shop at Morrison's and have been able to get next day deliveries for my area for a couple of weeks now. No subs past 2 shops either!

GladAllOver · 17/07/2020 10:24

The problem with supermarket deliveries is the limited choice. You don't get the same selection of fresh meat, fish etc that you get in the shop. If you live off ready meals and tinned food then it's fine.

They have recruited lots more drivers, and slots are easier to find now. Whether they will be able to keep up when the second wave starts remains to be seen.

I’m with Ocado and judging by the number of threads there has been since March on Mumsnet about them, I would say they have been the worst, especially towards weekly shoppers with delivery passes.

I can now get weekly deliveries but only on the same day every week.

Pre lockdown, due to paying for a midweek delivery pass, I could get as many deliveries as I wanted on a Tuesday-Thursday and be able to book them whenever I wanted and needed. That’s what I pay for but certainly not what I’ve been receiving since March.

RememberTheSunnierDays · 17/07/2020 11:03

We have had weekly deliveries throughout with Morrison’s - we aren’t in a vulnerable group and their slots were only released once their priority list has been attended to.

I really do rate Morrisons for quality and value. I’ve also been impressed with their social responsibility locally to food banks and nationally with heir policy to pay suppliers ASAP.

antipodes1 · 17/07/2020 11:06

I’m with Morrison’s and while it is better it’s still no where near back to normal. I can’t get a slot for next week.
I’m also annoyed that the apps are not back up and running. I find the websites versions slower and harder to use.

I'm with Morrison's and generally in my area I can now get a delivery slot for the next day. Still lots of items out of stock/ substituted though

MogHog · 17/07/2020 11:13

@GladAllOver its picked from the shop floor the day of the delivery and then loaded on to the vans. So you would get the same items that a person in the shop would get...fair enough the pickers won't go looking for the best dates etc but the choice is the same.

MogHog · 17/07/2020 11:15

Thats obviously dependent on who you shop with as a few are warehouse picked still.

SistemaAddict · 17/07/2020 11:23

Waitrose have been excellent but I'm on their priority list so I don't know about non-priority customers. My products have been fresh with good use by dates. There is less choice on frozen products but e stunting ends has been fine. I am certainly not living on ready meals Hmm I cook from scratch most of the time and fresh ingredients have been plentiful. It does seem to depend on where you live and who you shop with.I've just bought flour online from amazon. 16kg to keep us going as I still can't get that with my weekly shop.

Depends on where you're ordering from my local Tesco pick from the shop floor so the exact same selection as in store. Will depend on the area obviously but there's slots showing available for delivery every day for the next two weeks, so pretty much back to normal where I am and I haven't had any weird substitutions for a while so stock levels are returning to normal.

I use Morrison’s via the app and can get next day delivery as well as several other slots this week.

I’m also using the app so not sure why yours won’t work?

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 17/07/2020 11:56

Lots better. Still have to book a bit in advance but can now get my usual 2 a week. At one point I could only get a click and collect slot and that was only once a week.

Large family with everyone now at home we are going through a lot more food etc. So 2 deliveries a week makes life a lot easier!

butterry · 17/07/2020 11:58

I use Ocado and allowed to order every 2 days. There are still subs every week but it's usually same product just a different brand. A few items still out of stock for weeks though like white cabbages??

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 17/07/2020 12:01

We have managed only two Waitrose deliveries, despite supposedly having a priority slot. They’ve been disappointing from that point of view.

Darkestseasonofall · 17/07/2020 13:55

Thanks for all the replies.

I just took a punt on Morrisons, was able to use the app and have a slot tomorrow!

Loads showing as out of stock, which I don't have any problem with if it means they'll be able to deliver what I ordered as levels are good.

I heard somewhere that Morrisons picks the orders from a warehouse, like Ocado. Is that not the case, is it from the shop floor?

OP posts:
Beaniebeemer · 17/07/2020 14:13

That used to be the case with Morrisons but it’s picked from the shop floor now

BarbedBloom · 17/07/2020 14:16

No, not at all here. Still no slots at all. I have been shopping with Iceland though as over £25 it is next day free delivery. Never had an issue with getting a slot and they have almost everything I need (we cook from scratch).

SparkyBlue · 17/07/2020 14:23

Back to normal here I'm getting my regular Tesco delivery. It's great I hated my weekly big trip to the supermarket. Driver was telling us yesterday that they have extra drivers and and are doing deliveries over longer hours so lots more slots available.

Zisforstripyoss · 17/07/2020 15:35

The only time I've struggled to get deliveries was at the start of lockdown. We've been back to normal round here for since at least the end of April / start of May & I even managed to get Ocado this week!
