What did you give the kids teachers as thank you gift

We can then each a boxed floral pen and a homemade card. Not particularly expensive, but a small thank you. I bet they get lots of the same things, although with the economy might be different this year.

For eldest two’s schools I dropped up a basket with enough chocolate bars for all the staff to have one. It was in recognition of the fact that both schools have been phenomenal during lockdown and my DC have been taught by and cared for by more than just their usual teachers. I wouldn’t usually give to secondary school teachers but this was an exceptional year and I wanted to give a small thankyou in recognition of how amazing they’ve been. Both baskets were accompanied by a card addressed to the head.

We had emails back from both heads expressing their thanks and remarking that it brightened the day of the staff.

I had contemplated doughnuts from a local delivery place but decided wrapped bars was safer in light of the situation, and it was also cheaper. I would have sent an ice cream van to the schools but it was too complicated to pay in advance when not knowing how many staff were in on any given day.

For the youngest ones at Primary they gave cheap boxes of chocolates to their teachers and to the other teachers in their year group. The year groups have worked together to deliver home learning so it didn’t seem right to only give to their individual teachers. To be honest though, we only did it because DDs wanted to do something because I’d done it for the two secondary schools. Their school has not been good during lockdown and much of that has been due to the head so there was definitely no thankyou going to the school as a whole.

(We’re in a part of the U.K. that didn’t reopen schools before the summer break so these were dropped off at the school with no contact with the teachers)

We have bought school stationary bits for my DD's teacher, and she's also made her a card as she has been great this year and throughout lockdown. We have not heard anything from my DS's teachers / TA's since March, so won't be getting them anything.

@XFPW that's so kind, everyone loves chocolate 🍫

We did a group collection for vouchers for afternoon tea at a local posh hotel (they can be used for eating in or a takeaway) for all the teachers/ TAs in DD’s year. A few people have got their own presents (biscuits/ chocolates etc).

bashcrashfall · 17/07/2020 11:12

Nothing. Little one is really upset about the end of the year and refused to even make a card. Rather than add to the pile of chocolate and flowers I will get something like biscuits or chocolate for all the staff in the middle of next term. Oldest one - his school haven't been great in lockdown and haven't been great with his SEN so not bothering.

AllsortsofAwkward · 17/07/2020 11:14

Nothing I never understand the gift giving at the end of year of Christmas never happened when I was younger and people seem to go over the top and out do each other.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 17/07/2020 11:19

DD is leaving primary school, we have bought a nice 'Wonders of Nature' book with lovely illustrations for her teacher and DD has made a card. She used Google translate to write "I'll miss you" in various different languages.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 17/07/2020 11:26

I usually buy for all of my sons teachers including the teaching assistants, and with two in school it's expensive!
But our school has only stayed open for keyworker children so mine haven't been in since March. The school haven't been great at keeping in touch at all, heard from each of their teachers once only since March. And we have been told not to enter school unless it's to pick up or drop off a child. So I'm not sending anything this year. BUT one of my boys teaching assistant has been fantastic this year so when they're back in September I will be taking her a card and thank you gift then so we can give it personally.

Snigletted · 17/07/2020 11:31

DD wrote her a letter and gave her some hand gel and hand cream 😂 DS did nothing because he hates writing, was ill in the last week of term and said it wasn't necessary as he has them again next year 🤷‍♀️

BoogleMcGroogle · 17/07/2020 11:54

We posted a personalised card. No gift as we aren't allowed to visit the school office!

Sparticle · 17/07/2020 12:04

We gave my DC's teachers a card picnic box and bought sweets to put inside (inc a big bar of dairy milk) and the DC decorated the boxes with the names, plus they got a bottle of wine each. We gave the TAs the sweets/chocs but without the wine.

Crunchymum · 17/07/2020 12:09

Both of mine (R and Y2) had a class collection so it was vouchers.

Crunchymum · 17/07/2020 12:09

It was split for TA's as well.

SallyWD · 17/07/2020 12:31

At our school we always do a collection then get vouchers for teachers and TAs plus a plant or something. I think this is better than 30 small gifts. Less wasteful, they don't get the same thing ten times and they can buy something they really want. Your gift sounds lovely though OP. I love a nice pen.

Withershins · 17/07/2020 12:49

I don't usually give a gift, but this year I thought it would be a nice gesture as my "fostie" has attended for a portion of the lockdown. Luckily I make kiln fused glass so had something perhaps a little different to give, a little hand cut glass rainbow tea light candle shade. I gave a bigger one to the school for the display area.

John Lewis vouchers, a thank you card from me and a hand drawn and written thank you card from the child. I don’t really want to give give gifts as I have no idea what they want outside of school.

Jackparlabane · 17/07/2020 14:07

Did collection for one.teacher and TAs as someone organised it. Other teacher I will give a card and a gift voucher for our big supermarket, labelled 'consider this a bottle of gin'.

Sgtmajormummy · 17/07/2020 14:32

DD (14) finished Junior High school this year. The school got a new badge for its uniform hoodies In September so I copied it in patchwork onto a canvas bag for each of her teachers. They were left at the school reception.

I’ve also made a rainbow lap quilt for their form teacher and will ask the kids to sign or write messages in the white triangles using permanent markers. But that will have to wait until larger gatherings are allowed and we can have a class pizza with the parents and teachers.
