I’m in pain ...possibly infection, just waiting for dentist to phone me back ..she said they are only doing temporary fillings at the moment.
Anyone know for how how long ? And how long a temporary filling lasts

Can you afford private?
NHS is very limited but private is slightly better.

Think the only thing NHS can do is removal...

Im currently on my second lot of anti biotics for an infection. Im hoping its gum rather than tooth. I didnt speak to my usual dentist but to an emergency dentist. They told me they are only seeing emergency patients not their regular ones. If this second lot dont work then he said I have to go in to have it extracted. It may be different in other areas. Im in Leicestershire (but not in the lockdown areas and nor is the emergency dentist)

KimKsButt · 17/07/2020 08:55

Should also say i I had to take a photo of the infected area and email that and they prescribed from my description and th ephoto. Amoxicillin then metronizadole. They won’t leave you in pain. I feel what you are going through, today is the first day ive been able to close my mouth in 2 weeks! I was taking 3 nurofen and 3 co codomol as often as I could but only getting an hours relief.

They can't do any aerosol producing procedures (so no drilling). Think routine appointments are starting up slowly again

LittleG69 · 17/07/2020 09:03

I had a temporary filling a month ago and it's still going strong (touch wood).

They were waiting for the enhanced PPE to arrive but I haven't chased them as i'm in no rush while I'm pain free

Greenteandchives · 17/07/2020 09:04

My private dentist is now doing treatment. I had a lot of problems during lockdown which they were very supportive with although their hands were tied wrt treatment other than antibiotics. As soon as they opened up I was offered an appointment, had x rays and I have now had the problem sorted with a root canal treatment. A lot of precautions in place, but I was glad to go. Cost ££££ of course but holiday refund came in handy.

Ghostlyglow · 17/07/2020 09:19

They are certainly not here. I've had 2 routine check ups cancelled and the 2nd time they wouldn't make a new appointment. Just said they'd be in touch. I actually wouldn't be surprised if I never heard from them again.

ivegotthisyeah · 17/07/2020 09:19

I went yesterday for a filling that I wasn't even aware I needed ( check up b4 lockdown) and the rang me to come in and have it done so mines back to normal

Veganforlife · 17/07/2020 10:11

Why can’t they drill?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 17/07/2020 10:12

Because it produces aerosols which is what I said above. Its a way that covid 19 spreads

Veganforlife · 17/07/2020 10:39

So no drilling untill Covid is gone?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 17/07/2020 10:41

I think there are specialised hubs that will carry out riskier procedures

Heatherjayne1972 · 17/07/2020 12:03

We do drill. But the dentist / therapist and their assistant will be in a protective mask and gown
Currently most dental practices have a large backlog of lost filling and broken painful teeth so aren’t doing much routine stuff
If you’re in pain you should be seen tho op

Us hygienists are only handscaling tho. No cavitron ( that’s the water tool lots of people dread)
This is for the foreseeable future

wentawaycameback · 17/07/2020 13:04

My daughter sees a private dentist - because she needed veneers (turned out to be a much better option than braces). I have kept her with the private dentist so he can maintain the veneers - small chip on veneer - seen yesterday (within 7 days). On the other hand I have had toothache since lockdown and there is no sign of an appointment with my NHS dentist. The private dentist is very 'can do', the NHS dentist very 'can't do'. Also private dentist offered a 'zoom' consultation/triage service every day in lockdown. Just silence from NHS dentist.

I've got an appointment at my dentist in the next hour, I've got a horrendous pain in one of my back teeth, so we'll see what happens...!

Veganforlife · 17/07/2020 14:39

Good luck missclamity

Pavlova31 · 17/07/2020 17:47

Hope it went well MissCalamity.

MissCalamity · 18/07/2020 10:54

Thanks.
They are getting back to normal but cannot use the drills as yet, lucky or should that be unluckily for me it was an abcess on a back tooth so it came out...Sad

Loveinatimeofcovid · 18/07/2020 10:56

It may just be your specific dentist. My dentist is apparently short on work at the moment but doing proper treatment for whoever needs it.
