Afternoon tea for 6 people

please help ! I'm throwing an afternoon tea for 6 people and no idea what to make or how much to make. I've ordered a large victoria sponge and cupcakes but need some inspiration. Also advice on quantity as I always seem to go overboard .

I second that scone recipe from @AnneLovesGilbert . Use it every time.

If you have a Morrisons near you, have a look at their food to order range

20 triangle sandwiches start at £6, and they're made fresh in store and about half what M&S charge, but still nice. You need a couple of days to order them though.

Clotted cream for the scones is a must, no other type of cream is acceptable.

Don't fret, it's sandwiches and some cake. Isn't that basically a slightly nicer daily lunch for most people?

If you box up and fridge any leftovers, people can take them home, or you can eat them the next day.

Scones really do have to be home made, everything else you could get away with shop bought.

Personally I like plenty of little sandwiches, rather than lots of sweet stuff, though maybe I’m a bit odd.

I’ve often made masses for little Gdcs’ birthday parties (most eaten by the parents!) - triangular, crusts cut off. They always go, no matter how many! I’d allow at least 4 per person, which = one round (2 large slices) of bread. Just make sure you have really soft butter (or whatever spread) ready.

Last year we attended a wedding with afternoon tea after the ceremony - again there were plenty of tasty little sandwiches, it was lovely.

I'd also go for sandwiches and savoury items over lots of sweet things, but I wouldn't say no to taking home an extra slice of cake if there's some free to enjoy the next day.

I'd pick 2-3 small sandwiches (but then I'm a little and often eater, if this event takes more than a couple of hours, I'd want something else a bit later) plus a couple of savoury items (pork pie, crisps, cheese, quiche etc) and then just one scone with clotted cream. Pimms and fizzy wine of any type would also go down well.
