Just that really...broker has quoted about 1.2% of loan value.
Another said 599 for lifetime brokering!

Used 2. 1 independent who took his fee from the bank, when we tried to reuse him his service was awful found a national company online who charged £500 on completion. The deal they got us had a £500 cash back incentive so really we got it for free

Casmama · 16/07/2020 18:18

The first time in 2008 and he charged about £250 i think but the last time in 2017 I looked in comparison sites and saw that my current provider was offering the best deal so went directly to them and they had an internal mortgage advisor who supported me with everything.

Used one for the last move and she was free. She managed to port our existing mortgage and saved us lots of money in early repayment charges.

mine was free , they only charged if the property was over a certain price.

Used Mortgagescout who've just won best broker 2020. Well deserved as well. They were free.

4amWitchingHour · 16/07/2020 18:23

Used London and Country twice - they're excellent. Currently using The Mortgage Brain - also free, only using them as buying a new build and they're used to dealing with the developer we're buying from. Otherwise we'd go straight back to L&C.

MilkshakeandFries · 16/07/2020 18:23

I've used the same one 3 times and never paid him anything. He gets commission from the mortgage company and also if I choose to use his insurance suggestion but that's my decision and with no pressure at all.

passthemustard · 16/07/2020 18:24

I pay my guy £295 on completion. He's fab and worth every penny.

temproasted · 16/07/2020 18:33

London and Country. Used several times and they're great

ZombieLizzieBennet · 16/07/2020 19:09

Yes, about £250 or £300 I think. I wanted someone independent.

Allinadaystwerk · 16/07/2020 20:03

Well MN just saved me a pretty penny that's for sure. Thanks for the replies

Ours is free. They get commission from the companies rather than charge us. They've sorted our home ins for nothing too. And got us good deals.

WeirdlyOdd · 16/07/2020 22:34

London and country, recommended by MSE, are free and all-of-market. There's still usually a fee for the new mortgage itself (£500 - 1500 usually) but the broker's own commission is from the lender.

We've used L&C three times and will soon use them again, and have recommended them to family. They've been great and the deals have been better than those we could find ourselves. They're also good for pre-checks, so if you're self-employed, or one of you is on mat leave, they know which lenders will find that problematic.

Pacif1cDogwood · 17/07/2020 09:50

Do L&C operate in Scotland?

Just considering my options.... Smile

We use one that's free.

Kezzie200 · 24/09/2021 18:17

What's a lifetime service? Whose life and what if the broker moves into teaching, or firm sells to another?

AmandaHugenkiss · 24/09/2021 18:24

Ours is free, and he’s excellent (and quick). I paid once before that and got a terrible experience.
