If you are a Costco fan, what are your best buys?

Their nuts! Very good value, lots of choice and their mega Marmite tubs as I get through a big and a month. It's also the unexpected things. Last month I tried a big jar of pistachio cream just because it looked good and I'd never tried it before. It was absolutely amazing! Have been back twice to 2 branches and not found them since.

I'm going tomorrow, just got a card, haven't been in about 15 years so will keep an eye on this thread.

Enormous wedges of Parmesan - cut up and freeze.

Toilet paper. Excellent quality and far more on a roll than the normal branded stuff.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/07/2020 15:01

I haven’t tried it but apparently the washing powder in the big plastic Kirkland tub is really good and cruelty free unlike main brands so I’m going to try that next visit.

They’ve got an offer on coffee beans at the moment too.

TommyShelby · 16/07/2020 15:19

Toilet paper! It’s the best

Leolion09 · 16/07/2020 15:21

@Fluffycloudland77 we use the washing powere it's really good!
@WhatamessIgotinto we always get the mixed fruit and nut tubs, dishwasher tablets and large packs of tortilla wraps for when I can't think of what to make

Leolion09 · 16/07/2020 15:22

I find the quality of items at Costco very good however be aware that it isn't always cheaper especially if you shop at Aldi/Lidl or if things are on offer at other supermarkets. That said, sometimes I just buy it anyway as it's easier having stuff in bulk although having said that things like bags of nuts are great but once they are open you have to be able to control yourself! Here's a list of things I think are good:

Parmesan
Brownie Mix
Meat - especially fillet steak
Nuts - excellent quality
Frozen raspberries
Frozen gyoza and duck with pancakes
Large bottes of soy sauce/mayonnaise etc
Own brand loo roll

For a party they do supersize pots of things like olives, hummous, guac etc which again are very good quality, do check dates though.

Their wine selection is very good too.

The only thing I have been disappointed with and wouldn't buy again has been their own brand dishwasher tablets.

georgedawes · 16/07/2020 15:35

Do people find it's cheaper? It didn't seem it when I last went, but that was some time ago.

bluebells1 · 16/07/2020 15:40

Their Shampoo and Conditioner is really good! Coffee, tea, nuts, cheese, fruits (Mexican mangoes in now. So yummy) and pastries. If you’re a meat eater, they seem popular too.

WhatamessIgotinto · 16/07/2020 15:46

Thanks folks I have a list as long as my arm for tomorrow now. 😊

The Kirkland toilet paper is excellent also the Kirkland dishwasher tablets . We also always get pastries , their cooked chickens are the best anywhere and in the freezer dept they do Mac and cheese croquettes which are lovely . Some things are cheaper but you do need to check your prices as somethings are definitely not .

UncleShady · 16/07/2020 15:48

95% meat sausages
Cookies
Brownie mix
Dishwasher tablets (I like them)
Toilet paper
Kitchen roll - my god it is huge

I went round with the cost per litre/gram of Tesco prices. Most of the Kirkland stuff is cheaper/same cost as supermarket own brand. Branded goods are generally the same/lower cost to Tesco's offer price.

TimelyManor · 16/07/2020 15:52

When have you found is the quietest time to go?

areyoubeingserviced · 16/07/2020 15:58

Toilet roll
Kitchen roll
Salad and chicken platters
Dinner rolls - these are so addictive. I have had to ask dh not to buy them anymore as I cannot control myself

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 16/07/2020 16:01

Loo roll
Kitchen roll
Parmesan and cheddar (I grate the huge blocks and freeze)
Big pots of herbs and spices
Big jars of Wilkinson’s marmalade and Bonne Maman jam
Multipacks of Garofalo pasta
Trays of tinned tomatoes
Sacks of tea bags
Lavazza coffee (we get the ground but they also do big bags of beans)
Huge boxes of washing powder (we get Fairy)
Trays of meat. In the past we’ve bought chicken thighs (fillets and on the bone) and Aberdeen Angus mince. I’m not sure what the welfare status of the chicken is, so have stopped buying it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/07/2020 16:03

@georgedawes Generally I don’t find it cheaper for a lot of things but the offers are good.

Aldi et al are cheaper. I find the f&v at Costco overpriced & the birthday cakes look like an American 1970’s cake.

marmalademermaid · 16/07/2020 16:18

Love a Costco trip. Our must haves:
loo roll k kitchen roll (as long as you have plenty of storage space)
Nuts & big bags of crisps/snacks for guests
Croissants and pastries (we used to use these for in office breakfast meetings).
Salmon fillets (these are a staple for us) comparative price to Aldi/Lidl but excellent quality & taste.
Venison steaks & fillet steak good value and better taste than usual supermarket offering.
Cheeses and antipasti
Frozen gyoza
Washing powder
Some of the house wine is pretty decent but choose carefully.

WhatamessIgotinto · 16/07/2020 16:39

Box wine that holds 5 litres (6.5 bottles) Blushfor 30 quid and does not give me a hangover.

PrayingandHoping · 16/07/2020 16:44

Brownie mix!!!
Skecher shoes
Meat

TimelyManor · 16/07/2020 16:56

Thank you Whatamess.

frustrationcentral · 16/07/2020 17:20

We haven't been for a while but the chicken tenders (frozen) used to be popular in our house. They came with sachets of different sauces

We like the convenience of huge bottles of sauces, big bags of tea bags, catering tubs of hot chocolate etc

Always have to end the visit sat in the car eating a slice of the cheap and cheerful pizza from the cafe Grin
