Has anyone ordered anything from Wish? Is it legit?

I keep seeing it pop up with bargains that look too good to be true furniture and homeware wise - is it legit? Or one of those crappy, nothing like the picture, never get your money back places?

My 9 yo is v v happy with her Great Hall and various other sets. She spends hours studying sets online and is perfectly content that what she has is comparable. I do appreciate the ethical concerns, really I do, but until no-one on here buys high street 'designer' copies, Primark and similar, that aspect is not going to persuade me. The production cost of plastic bricks is minute. The designs themselves yes, will incur far more but £100+ per set, that will sell by the millions? No.

As I said, if your kid is happy with them then crack on. But don’t go round telling people they’re identical because that’s just a lie.
bookmum08 · 16/07/2020 23:32

Lovely that your 9 year old likes her STOLEN 'Lego'. Would you also been happy with buying her some cheap Lego from the back of a van behind the pub a day after you hear a local toy shop had all their Lego stolen ? Would you think "ooh this seems a bit suspicious" or would you think "yay bargain".
(Then said toy shop closes down because they don't make enough money and you go "oh that's sad, I remember getting all my toys from there as a kid" or "such a shame that shop had been there since 1934" etc)
You are contributing to CRIME Huge. CRIME.

Tillygetsit · 17/07/2020 01:44

Blimey. It's only a bit of lego 😂

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/07/2020 05:25

Wish is a chinese amazon. Ive had quite a lot of smaller things from there - my filofax, pages and bullet journal stencils, stocking fillers, hairbands etc. My colleague said of the clothes that if they have a western model buy them and if not dont. Ive ordered boden type clothing for dd anf tbh theres only one pair of leggings thats been a bit dodgy. Got some lego minifigures for the kids. Ds loves zombies and lego doesnt make them. So it depends a lot on what you buy.

Bluewavescrashing · 17/07/2020 05:43

I haven't bought anything from wish. I do get stuff from ebay eg an oversized plush hoodie, only £19 compared to an Oodie which is £65. It arrived in 3 days so must have been sent from the UK but I'm sure it was made in China. It's fabulous!

I wouldn't get toys from Wish as I'd worry about unsafe plastics etc. They have lower safety standards. My DCs are lego fanatics and would turn their noses up at fake lego.

I do like looking at the pics of random shite on Wish ads though 👌

thinkpad1 · 17/07/2020 05:55

I bought a tshirt from there which didn't arrive so got a credit note and I bought a dogs bed. Dogs bed is as thin as a wafer but he seems to like it. Tshirt arrived after about 5 months and it seemed great at first but on first wash the logo picture was peeling so I wouldn't buy from them again.

bookmum08 · 17/07/2020 05:59

It's not just a 'bit of Lego'. It's not Lego. Lego is a brand.
There are lots of 'clone' brands available which are legal and create their own designs. Megabloks and MegaConstrux, Wilkos Blox, Bloc Tech (which is sometimes sold under own brand names in individual shops - ie in B+M it's called Brick by Brick).
These are legitimate brands who have their own designers and follow the rules of what elements can be made - certain pieces are still under copyright in Lego so they cannot be copied by other companies.
Lego and MegaConstrux both have licenced character sets - Star Wars etc. Only the company who has the licence can produce these. MegaConstrux used to own the rights to the Minions characters. They designed sets, made the figures in a certain design. The licence then expired and Lego purchased the rights. They are now producing Minion sets. However under the copyright rules they have to design their own models and figures. They can't just start producing direct copies of MegaConstrux sets.
There are rules and laws over copyright and licenced sets. Strict rules. There have been court cases.
The stuff that Wish sell is mostly STOLEN designs. It is not just 'another brand'.

amylou8 · 17/07/2020 06:01

I prefer the format of AliExpress. Stuff takes anything between 10 days and 4 months to arrive. Fine for cheap bits of clothes, craft stuff etc.

PopsicleHustler · 17/07/2020 06:29

Their trustpilot reviews are horrendous. I've been shopping with wearesenior.com. they always have a sale on and they do everything fashion and furniture and makeup and jewellery. Really good quality from what I have had so far

Stuckforthefourthtime · 17/07/2020 06:39

Unethically produced rubbish that's destined for landfill

This. Rips off designers, environmentally crap, and takes weeks to arrive in the bargain.

HugeAckmansWife · 17/07/2020 08:10

Oh calm down bookmum I will "crack on" if it means my DD can spend hours and hours on creative imaginative play, improving her fine motor skills, designing "fixes" for elements that don't work as she'd like them to, having enough different houses etc to create a town that her characters have adventures in. I and her grandparents spend plenty on proper Lego, Playmobile, Sylvanian Families etc. And I stand by the "identical" thing for SOME of the kits - you have to look very closely at the pictures and descriptions - which they do NOT market as Harry Potter or "Friends" . Its a v close rip off, yes, but as I said, no different to the copying of designer styles in high street stores, BooHoo etc. The OP asked if Wish was any good. For lots of things, no, but for this element, my experience and therefore my answer is yes.

HugeAckmansWife · 17/07/2020 08:10

Oh and long delivery times do vary, but so long as you know and factor it in, that's fine too.

SheWranglesRugRats · 17/07/2020 08:22

So you're not particularly fussed about the working conditions and horrendous pollution in both manufacture and shipping then?

HugeAckmansWife · 17/07/2020 08:39

rugrats The individual actions of private citizens are a drop in the ocean compared to what industries and governments do. This is a debate for a different thread but like millions and millions of others in our consumer based, capitalist world, I participate in a very unfair, unequal global system and unless you are all out off grid eco warrior, so do you and everyone else on this thread.

bookmum08 · 17/07/2020 08:47

Fine whatever Huge but Lego are currently the only brick based toy construction company who own the LEGAL rights to produce Harry Potter sets. So whatever you are buying from wish are fakes.
They could be dangerous - unsafe chemicals in the bricks. You will have no idea because they won't have gone through any safety checks that all major toy company have to do.
But that is your choice.
Once life starts getting back to normal again the Lego Model shows will be able to start up again. The London Brick Festival is still a possibility of happening in September. Obviously I have no idea where you live but in normal non covid times these shows happen all over the UK.
Perhaps you should bring your daughter to see some of the brilliant models built that use a small amount of bricks. You don't need to have a gazillion bricks to be creative and practice fine motor skills.

HugeAckmansWife · 17/07/2020 09:01

She is a Lego fanatic and has many of the proper Lego sets. She absolutely understands that these are "fakes" but has not found them to be inferior. I honestly do get the ethical concerns but you equally well say that its unethical to charge £100+ for moulded bricks that you know kids desperately want. She'd love the Lego shows but we're not near London. If they do tour I'd take her in a heartbeat (using un environmentally friendly petrol no doubt)

bookmum08 · 17/07/2020 09:17

Huge Harry Potter sets are expensive but the Lego Company have paid for the legal rights to create these sets.
Where abouts in the UK are you. I am sure I can suggest a Lego show or exhibition that (hopefully) will be happening next year.

Magicpaintbrush · 17/07/2020 09:20

My DH ordered from Wish and they took a lot of money from his account for things he hadn't ordered - was lots of grief, phone calls to the bank etc. Will never shop with them again.

Pavlova31 · 17/07/2020 09:26

Not myself but friends have and they receive an unwelcome amount of Sales emails. About 6 a day on average but usually more.

heartsonacake · 17/07/2020 09:33

And I stand by the "identical" thing for SOME of the kits - you have to look very closely at the pictures and descriptions - which they do NOT market as Harry Potter or "Friends" .

@HugeAckmansWife Another lie - they are marketed as Harry Potter because they have Harry, Ron and Hermione on the cover.

And again, you can’t stand by they’re “identical” because that’s just not true. Any idiot can look at a photo of the two and see the obvious, cheap differences.

bookmum08 · 17/07/2020 09:33

Huge Lego shows still scheduled for this year (but sadly may still get cancelled) are the London Brick Festival (in London obviously), Great Western Brick Show (Swindon) and Shildon Brick Show (Shildon, County Durham).
Next year (fingers crossed) life will be back to normal and there will be dozens of shows (some just Lego, some general model displays) back. I was hoping to have displayed at 4 maybe 5 shows this year. Sadly cancelled of course.

Cocolapew · 17/07/2020 09:47

Wish and AliExpress both sell baby/child size fleshlights and sex dolls.

SheWranglesRugRats · 17/07/2020 09:53

unless you are all out off grid eco warrior, so do you and everyone else on this thread.

Sorry but I think that's a copout. We can all reduce our impact by not buying pointless landfill shite, and it's up to individuals to drive green issues up the political agenda. And that's even before we get onto the issues of safety standards and worker welfare.

doadeer · 17/07/2020 09:55

It's a marketplace so its a series of Sellers, many of whom will sell on other marketplaces too
