Looking at launching soon and want to do a WOW introductory promotion.

2 person tea is going to be £24
What do you suggest?

What's included in that? Could you throw in a bottle of prosecco or something? Something that makes it seem a bit special.

Overseasmom100 · 14/07/2020 21:25

Finger sandwiches
Slices of double cheese spring onion quiche
Cherry scones jam and cream
Brownie
Lemon drizzle
Carrot cake cupcake
Individual wrapped tea
And complimentary treat (italian wrapped chocolate)

Love the ptosecco but not everyone likes or wants alcohol

I don't know your business model, but are you expecting your customers to be repeat customers? I doubt it. Once or twice a year for a special occasion. So there is no need to give an introductory offer to everyone. It isn't a subscription. What you want is immediate orders from whichever advertising method you use to get your business launched. So perceived value, scarcity and peer reviews. Something like 20% off for bookings by midnight.

Overseasmom100 · 14/07/2020 22:08

Just sourced 2 of those little bottles of prosecco maybe those look a little special

A tea for 1 (or 2) might appeal to people who want to send a treat to an elderly relative. Consider offering an optional personalised 'Thinking about you' card for those.

dobbyssoc · 14/07/2020 22:19

Ohhh I love things like this

  • choice of a bottle of fizz or bottle of sparkling fruit drink
  • a recipe card for one of your cakes
  • half price voucher for next order
  • offer of a subscription box for a reduced rate e.g one cream tea a month for £20 a month (subscription of 3-6 months)
  • a couple of extra tea bags (posh type ones)
  • a cardboard cake stand type thing that they could arrange their afternoon tea on

Flowers

VeniVidiWeeWee · 15/07/2020 00:05

If you supply alcohol, even as a gift, you might need a licence.

MrsEricBana · 15/07/2020 00:11

I really like the idea of one of those collapsible pretty cardboard cake stands and agree the alcohol might need a licence. Great idea to do tea for one or two so can gift to someone alone / couple / self etc.

MrsHookey · 15/07/2020 00:14

One pretty flower! With some cheap plastic holder if need be. Or I wonder if you might enclose a personalised card from the sender with a nice photo? Happy anniversary Mum and Dad, with love from xyz.

InsideOutChickenParm · 15/07/2020 00:14

Do you have gluten free options?

caringcarer · 15/07/2020 00:59

It sounds nice to give as a gift. Which area are you OP?

LynetteScavo · 15/07/2020 07:11

Will you be offering unlimited tea? Or is that where you will be making the money? (£12 per head sounds very reasonable) Having to order extra tea always irritates me.

Rather than the surprise of a chocolate could you give a small gift of chocolates if someone was booking for a birthday or anniversary as a special offer?

I don't think you need to give the complementary treat (which all grown ups know isn't actually completely)

I'm

labyrinthloafer · 15/07/2020 07:14

You will need a licence for alcohol.

What about buying secondhand vintage china and sending a nice large plate to put the cakes on?

moveandmove · 15/07/2020 07:18

There are so many of these around my area at the minute, the market is saturated with them. Have you done research? Is there space in the market for you?

Dcadmam001 · 15/07/2020 07:20

Missing the point here but cherry scones are a bit of an acquired taste.. plain or fruit are more normal and would generate more orders

AuntieMarys · 15/07/2020 07:23

Seems to be the "in" thing at the moment. I have seen some truly shit ones on local FB groups. Shopbought cake, crap bread and all dusted with icing sugar.

BikeRunSki · 15/07/2020 07:32

Exactky what I was going to say. Cherry scones would make me go to one of the many other afternoon tea services around.
peachypetite · 15/07/2020 07:34

Definitely not cherry scones!

Splattherat · 15/07/2020 07:42

I would put a lot of effort into photographing your offerings so these can be shared and look enticing on FB, Insta but agree lots of these around and market does seem quite saturated.
I would maybe go for a gentleman’s or savoury afternoon tea option include maybe small piece of quiche, homemade sausage roll, slice of chicken and ham pie, scotch egg etc.
Or something to appeal to friends get together maybe Indian or mediterranean selection.
Include card message options; thank you, birthday, sorry, congratulations, celebration just because etc.

beansonbread · 15/07/2020 07:56

Cherry scones are my absolute favourite so just having those in your boxes puts you well above the hundreds of other new businesses popping up offering afternoon tea.
I do like the idea of cardboard stands to present your food on at home though. That’s quite unique.

BikeRunSki · 15/07/2020 10:59

Maybe offer a choice of plain/fruit/cherry/cheese scones?

I’d pay good money for a decent cheese scone.

Ariela · 15/07/2020 11:36

A small bunch of flowers or a single rose in a vase. Seasonally you can do daffodils in spring etc.
Vases £1.50 in Ikea. Flowers - what's in Aldi/Lidl/Morrisons?

Plus unique choice of cards for a message (if the tea is a gift) . Know anyone local that makes cards might like to collaborate?

Mightymurphy · 15/07/2020 12:06

Coffee a bag - like a tea bag for the non tea drinkers

Plain scones. Plenty don’t like fruit in a scone. Me for example. I’d scroll, past you if your only offering is cherry scones 🤢

Up purchase for Prosecco or cava.
