Not paying for electricity

I have a pre payment meter (suits me better I’m on a budget) we had a power cut August 2019 which stopped the meter recognising anything it just went blank. I have been onto Eon since but nothing has happened. I know I’m due a huge bill it’s been nearly a year and I have kept money back but it’s all going to be estimated.

They can’t issue a bill because I’m not due one ( pre payment) they can’t fix the meter because I’m out of area (north east Scotland, no technicians) and I still have electricity so not a priority.

Does anyone know what I can do, I hate debt and worked so hard to not have any.

I asked DP about this. He works for another company but the theory is much the same.

A) They can only back-charge you for the past 12 months, so if it exceeds 12 months they can still only charge for 12 months use.

B) To work out what you’re due to pay, they will look at your previous usage prior to the meter breaking. So it is estimated but based on your regular usage pattern.

C) When the meter is fixed and the bill issued...The complaints side will vary with companies, but he thinks that if you question the bill or make a complaint about being forced into debt, they will likely offer a decent reduction. It’s in their best interest not to have complaints and if the complaint goes to Ofgem it costs the company something like £200 just to have the complaint handled, so they want to resolve with you.
Be polite, firm, and state what you want.
