Car accident - can I have a hand hold?

This morning I was driving my normal route to work and ended up in a car accident. My car is likely a write off. I was hit side on and my car span nearly 360 in a circle from the impact. Luckily I wasn't injured and neither was the other driver. There's barely any damage to his van.

I feel sick and shaky. I've done all the formal stuff like paperwork and I'm waiting to hear back from my garage as to what will happen with my car but I just can't shake the feeling of nausea. I've had tea and toast. Please someone say something reassuring! I've never had an accident before and I just feel sick.

Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your accident, I’m glad you’re ok. You’ve done well to get the paperwork sorted. Take each hour at a time and think of something comforting you can do, eg another cup of tea, a bath. It’s ok to look after yourself today and do things to make yourself feel better.

Hand hold here. It's a horrible thing to experience and the shaky, sick feeling is shock and is completely normal. Have you got anyone with you now? Be kind to yourself for the next couple of days. You may feel sore tomorrow and if so make sure you get checked out. I was crushed between 2 cars in January and my injuries weren't apparent straight away - I felt fine. Keep going with the tea and find something comforting to watch on tv, cuddle and up and look after yourself. Unmumsnet hug for you Flowers

Thank you both Flowers

Yes, DH came right home from work to be with me luckily so I'm not alone. I had the dog with me and he was shaking afterwards bless him, though he seems okay now.

I was just driving and all of a sudden there was this bang and my car had spun and I was facing the direction the van had come from. It was awful and didn't help that his co-workers turned up and I was on my own!

Just a late bump - I got off the phone with the insurance company an hour ago and they were really good. I'm having a free courtesy car dropped off at 9.30am tomorrow and they'll take mine off to be repaired.

Luckily I'm fully insured as they reckon the bill will be well over 2k!

Keep an eye on your dog for future travel. We were rear ended with dog in the back at 50mph. Fire service had to cut dog out and she completely freaked out about car travel after that for a long time.

Same thing happened to me - I was driving down the road and a car just came thundering out of a cul de sac into the side of me.
Me and my 2 year old were fine, but the car was a write off. I was so shaky and felt terrible.
But, we got the hire car the next morning and my partner made me go out and drive to 5 mins to Tesco. I’m glad he did - I would’ve probably been too scared to drive and I would’ve kept putting it off.
To this day though, I’m extra cautious at any kind of junction or roundabout as I still remember the crash.

I'm so glad you're okay OP, the shock will subside soon and you'll be able to see things a little clearer.

Thank you! I feel a lot better now I've spoken with the insurance and I know I can get to work etc. while my car is being fixed.

@Finfintytint - god, that's awful! Luckily the dog was fine and we put him in DH's car an hour later and he didn't seem bothered. My car is too small to have him in the boot comfortably so I have no choice but to have him in the back. Luckily he was wearing his harness and seatbelt.

@CatFaceCats it's awful isn't it? One minute I was driving along and the next there was an almighty bang and the car was facing a different direction! I managed to drive my car to the garage and I'll need to drive my courtesy car tomorrow for work - probably a good thing that I have no choice but to get back out there. Though I'll probably avoid that junction for a while!
