How do you clean your windows?

What do you use to clean your windows with inside and out? I've tried method window and glass cleaner and a squeegee but they just go streaky. I must be doing something wrong. What is your method for streak free windows?

Window cleaner does the outside

I occasionally wipe the inside with window cleaner

Montybojangles · 13/07/2020 09:54

I use koh cleaner on them, the starter pack came with a cloth specifically for glass. I tend to do a quick first spray and wipe with an ordinary cloth to get the grime off, then a second spray and use the glass cloth and it leaves them Clean and streak free.
It’s actually amazing stuff. I HATE cleaning, but this stuff (and the cloths and sponges) works really well, and doesn’t have a hideous scent like so many cleaners do.

Karcher Window Vac. It's the bee's knees.

I got rid of the creepily over-familiar window cleaner I used to have, and invested in one of these instead. Not hugely expensive (about £50) and makes the job quick and easy. And it doesn't keep trying to touch me...

We have a window cleaner for outside and dh has a window vac, I am useless at glass washing so he does it.

SengaStrawberry · 13/07/2020 09:56

Window cleaner does the outside and I have a karcher window vac for inside, I love it.

TimeWastingButFun · 13/07/2020 10:01

We have a window cleaner do the outsides but I use a Karcher window cleaner inside. It's fantastic! Window cleaner advised going round the edges with a micro fibre cloth before vacuuming. So quick!

uselessdiyer · 13/07/2020 10:34

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure my mum has a karcher so I'll see if I can borrow that and see how I get on with it.

Fairy liquid diluted in water in a spray bottle, wipe with one cloth wet then dry off - works well for mirrors and shower screens as well. I literally use the same bottle of solution for cleaning everything.

MeadowHay · 13/07/2020 10:43

Inside I use Tesco glass cleaner and a disposable cloth of some kind hah. Don't do them very often though Blush they can be a little bit streaky sometimes though I admit. Outside we have a window cleaner for the front ones and the back basically never get done Blush

SimonJT · 13/07/2020 10:45

Our window cleaner does inside and out, they have to be done by hand rather than one of those pole systems due to the style of the window.

SummerPoppies · 13/07/2020 10:51

I use white vinegar in warm water and a chamois leather.
The window cleaner does the outside.
I would like to add that the insides only get cleaned when I realise that it isn't permanently foggy outside.

coffeewithmilk · 13/07/2020 10:56

Hot soapy water scrubbed with a sponge and then finish off with windowlene spray and rub it using a soft sock - doesn't leave any streaks.
I find the method window cleaner leaves streaks EVERYWHERE! I was so disappointed with it as I love the rest of their products.

For stuff like mirrors/ shower doors I use 2x squeezes or fairy liquid, 1 cup white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and again, use a sponge if it is very dirty, and if not then a sock as it leaves it streak free. Hate the smell of the vinegar though but it really works!

massivecheeseplant · 13/07/2020 11:03

I use the traditional window cleaner method inside and out because I've always thought the job looks fun, so it gives me the chance to do a bit of role play Grin. Fairy liquid in bucket of hot water, dip jay cloth, wipe whole window so nice and wet and soapy. Squeegee off using tea towel to wipe squeegee every swipe or two. Bob's your uncle!

Oxo01 · 13/07/2020 11:05

I bought pack of 2 e cloths from Amerzon
Thought they would be useless but
they are great, thicker cloth just wet with water and wipe windows then dry with other thin cloth.
Result -Really clean and streak free windows.

DappledThings · 13/07/2020 11:08

Window cleaner for the outside, choose not to look too closely at the inside.

🤣🤣 similar approach here

Dilute Fairy liquid and a cloth. Final polish with screwed up newspaper.

Rafflesway · 13/07/2020 12:54

Inside - we either use the Karcher or use window cleaning spray foam which I can highly recommend.

Outside - haven’t seen a window cleaner in our area since the year dot so we bought a full extendable kit from Homebase and DH does them by putting the spray foam on the cloth he uses at the end of the pole. However, we had our windows put in 7 years ago and feel sure it is like self clean glass - small private double glazing firm who built their own windows on site - as we only do the outside twice per year and there is hardly any dirt from them.

FranklyDearIDontRiverdance · 13/07/2020 12:56

Window cleaner outside. Inside I just use some Windowlene and kitchen roll. It’s just white vinegar so you could use that (as my DM did, with newspaper to wipe off).

I’ve also discovered a Minky glass cleaner cloth, which is really good on my indoor glass/mirrors

pinkglove75318 · 13/07/2020 12:58

Recently started using the detol all in one spray and a the yellow fuzzy dusted things.

Absolute game changer. Easy, fast, no streaks and smells lovely.

Karcher Window Vac. It's the bee's knees.

^ this! I borrow my mum's and it works a treat. Before that I used to wash with a solution of window cleaning liquid in hot water and a cloth and then use a traditional squeegee but the Karcher gadget is a game-changer.

uselessdiyer · 13/07/2020 15:18

Going to try out your suggestions thank you!

Another vote for the Karcher - I can do large conservatory in no time at all, without the aching shoulder I used to get when I (very infrequently LOL) bothered.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 13/07/2020 16:35

I have tried lots of things but last week i just sprayed white vinegar, rubbed over with a cloth then polished them dry with a linen cloth and could not believe how easy it was, they were sparkly and streak free even when the sun shone on them.
