At what age did you stop using car seats for your older kids?

Dd3 turned 10 last week and I’m wondering whether she legally still requires a booster seat. She’s a bit of a shortie, so I’m thinking she might still needs one. I hope one of you lovely ladies could help me 🥴

I'm 168cm tall and use a wedge booster cushion myself when I drive, or the seatbelt cuts into my neck! Can highly recommend it. It helps with telling the kids they need to use their HBBs as well, they are both 132cm but they don't whinge about being too grown up for their seats now because I tell them that even Mummy uses one Grin

When age reached 135cm. She's tall for her age so I think she was 8.

we stopped when dc were 150 in height.

My son is 11 and still uses a booster. He's not short for his age (will have to measure him!) but without a booster the seat belt sits a little too high over his shoulder.

okiedokieme · 13/07/2020 13:51

11 for the eldest, 12 for the younger but both are petite and light. They only reached the minimum height at that point

JassyRadlett · 13/07/2020 13:56

I have a tall 8 year old; I’ve offered him the choice after he hit 140cm. Right now he’s choosing to keep the booster.

Rosapilosa · 13/07/2020 13:58

Just turned 8 year old stopped using his a few months ago. He's very long

jackstini · 13/07/2020 14:00

Just stopped with ds age 11 - he hit 140cm and the belt was finally in the right place

I know that I switched from a highback to a backless booster when DS1 was just over 9yo. The highback one wouldn't raise up any higher and his shoulders stopped fitting under the headrest. I was under the impression that they were all the same height and you couldn't get a taller one, which I later found out was wrong!

If anyone else is in this situation, if you want to keep using a highback booster, Diono Cambria at Smyths or Britax Adventure are two inexpensive ones which apparently go up high enough. I'm annoyed actually, because we had an Adventure when he was younger but it got broken, so I swapped it for something else which ended up being too short!

I think it’ll be safer for her to be in a seat especially as she sits in the middle seat between the older dds, which always gives me nightmares of someone I knew who went through the front screen in an accident 😕

Thank you for all the valuable suggestions

Most countries other than the UK say 145 or 150cm. My 149cm 9 year old grew out of his high backed booster a while ago but is still on a booster cushion (his choice) even though he doesn't need it. I reckon he'll be insisting he sits on it when he's 20.

DD2 has come out of her HBB at 9, she is about 136cm but it is too narrow for her shoulders.
