Why have I got a two week timescale for gynae investigations?

Have got long standing problem with heavy painful periods. Have had one ovary and tube removed due to cyst causing torsion. Also had poylp removed from uterus. Was still having problems, eventually got referred to consultant who said to go back to GP and get a mirena, wasn't particularly happy as would prefer ablation, was trying to get appointment then covid happens. Last night first day of period had heavy bleed, worse than usual, called 111, sent ambulance, admitted to surgical assessment unit, examined etc, told to come back in morning for a scan, did, found fibrous womb, then registrar spoke to me, wanted to take swab from uterus but wasn't able to as os is closed. She is arranging hysteroscopy within two weeks, said to prevent me having to go back to GP, I asked if timescale was due to concerns about cancer, she said no but when taking clinical history prior to them trying for swab she was asking if had unexplained weight loss or history of cancer in family.

I am so worried. Is she making things happen quickly because of fears about cancer? I can't cope with this it is one thing after another. I've got kids and I need to keep on working. I am so scared I can't even talk to anyone irl about it. Has anyone else had a quick referral that was just done routinely?

All these thing are just incase of cancer so it is caught early.
I have had fibroids, polyps investigated and 3 hystetoscopys under the 2 week wait, all negative.
Be happy that you don't have long wait and will be able to say goodbye to those heavy periods and get on with your life.

I think those are quite standard questions to ask. I don't know about the quick appointment time but I have been asked those questions many times when I've had medical appointments.

Thank you that is hopeful. It's just such a different attitude to the consultant I saw who didn't even examine me it was literally a two minute appointment when she just said go to your GP and get a mirena and my symptoms were roughly the same then so why the rush now after the scan etc

I mean the bleed last night was fucking awful it was just pouring out of me which is why they sent the ambulance because I was dizzy but my periods have been heavy for ages and the consultant I saw most recently was unconcerned.

Because fibroids causing heavy bleeding are common but if they're going to be removed surgically they have to ask.Very unlikely to be anything sinister.
I had mine removed and a Mirena put in at the same time, almost no bleeding since(I could barely leave the house before)

Yeah I don't fancy the mirena as I get massive mood swings pre menstrually and I know that can make it worse which is why I wanted ablation. The consultant I saw who removed the polyp agreed with me on that and said to go back and get an ablation if taking the polyp out didn't help but ofc when you get re referred it's just pot luck who you see and it so happened that that next consultant couldn't have been less interested.

Also I don't have fibroids as such, the woman who did the scan just said my uterus was fibrous ie bulky which I understand is fairly common for someone my age ie 49.

I wish it was like in other countries where you have your own gynaecologist. Apart from anything else I get sick of retelling my now quite long clinical history all the fucking time and I would like to be able to choose who shoves stuff through my cervix anyway.

That's the downside of the 2ww,you see different Drs as you get put on the first available list.
I was sort of bullied into having the Mirena but it has worked well for me and now part of my hrt.

That most recent consultant wasn't under the two week wait though. It was just a GP referral and it took months to come through. I did request the consultant who'd removed the polyp because she'd said she would recommend ablation having seen my uterus during that procedure and having listened to me re my concerns about mirena. But I didn't get her because you just get who you get even if you wait four months apparently )one appointment got cancelled. It was a long four months.)
