So I am looking for classic films that he will enjoy
Don't mind going up to 15 for a few things

The matrix
Breakfast club
The lost boys
Back to the future

What else may he enjoy?

My 12 year old has just really enjoyed the Bourne Identity films (as did we!)

Binterested · 12/07/2020 19:19

The Eagle has Landed?
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - definitely some dodgy attitudes and scenes but they went right over my son’s head and he loved it.

The Three Amigos
Airplane
Saving Grace
The Italian Job (the original one)
Ghostbusters (the original ones)
Cool Runnings

My 12 year old has enjoyed Forrest Gump, Cast away and The Meg recently.

A newish one, but "Handsome Devil", especially if he's sporty.

Ds likes Carry Ons (esp Don't loose your head)
The Great Escape
Dambusters (although it makes him cry)
Clue
Oh What a Lovely War
Sink the Bismark

Also love Dambusters but worth noting that the lovely dog in the film is named a very unfortunate name - a word you just wouldn't use ever today.

Likewise Butch Cassidy etc has some dodgy bits - as mentioned.

I do like Common Sense Media for a sense check on films for kids although it doesn't have an entry for Dambusters as I guess it's too British.

The BreakfastClub has quite adult themes. We've not watched Dirty Dancing with the DDs yet, despite it being a 12, because it seems a bit mature still with the abortion storyline.

Watched Ferris Beuller's Day off with my 11 and 12 year old and they adored it. It's a 15 but only because of the swearing (which I didn't think was bad at all) and the overall story is great fun.

Binterested · 13/07/2020 14:08

Also sorry I meant Where Eagles Dare not the Eagle Has Landed

The Goonies!
Indiana Jones trilogy (not the new fourth one, that's awful!)
Wayne's world 1&2
Top Gun followed by Hot Shots
The Hunt for Red October - I loved this at that sort of age but it's slow, depends on his concentration levels.
The old Bond films, especially the Roger Moore years which had a lot more humour.
