Battling with thrush, what soap do you use?

I am getting a bit fed up. I love a bath, but have never been able to use bubble bath as I would get thrush straight away. Not sure if it's because I'm getting older now but every time I bath I seem to as well. I'm thinking it's the soap. I shower mostly now and it just seems to be bathing that is triggering it.

I have been using white Lux or Dove unscented, both the bars and not the liquid soap. I have had terrible experiences with most of the other nice soaps like Neste Dante, Jo Malone or anything scented.

So, if you are sensitive what do you use. My last visit to gynae he advised not to use the feminine hygiene soaps and gels that are supposed to keep the pH balanced, he says they are just as bad.

I just really fancy having a nice long soak in the bath without getting the irritation the next day.

Dermol 500 was prescribed by the doctor and is the only thing I can use.

Do not use any sort of soap, not even FemFresh.

I've battled recurrent thrush for 10 years, try aqueous cream it's about £1 for a huge tub.

I suffered from recurring thrush badly several years ago. I'd just recover from one bout and then I'd get it again.
Anyway, the thing that permanantly fixed it for me was fluconazole - I took it for a 6 month regime. I can't remember how often but I remember getting tons of it from the chemist all at once.
It took a bit of internet digging to find that as a possible solution and I took an article to my doctor and she looked it up and agreed to try it. Looking now there seems to be much more online about it so it must be a common treatment.
I'd definitely speak to your doctor about getting on a 6 month treatment plan.
By the way - I don't use any soap "down there" - just water. After going through that thrush I never want it back again.

Try washing w coconut oil. It's good for candida orally as well as a wash

I don’t understand how people can only use water down there and feel clean, you have faecal matter, sweat, urine etc., I use femfresh on everything external front to back and I’ve never had any issues what so ever.

Aqueous cream. No soap at all. I discovered that what I was assuming was recurring thrush was in fact my mucous membranes reacting badly to soap - any soap including those intended for use in that area.

If I accidentally get soap on the area at all it will start to itch and antihistamines are needed to sort it out - not thrush treatment.

Maybe you don't have as severe a sensitivity as some though. I think it's obvious from this thread that not everyone does.

Do you wash your body with the aqueous cream as well?

I used to wash ds with it instead of soap as a baby as he had eczema quite badly. I didn't even think to try this.

I have never been able to use bubble bath for the same reason. I bath every day but only plain water. I then use shower gel to wash just before I get out and rinse thoroughly.

Missillusioned · 12/07/2020 22:05

@isthismylifenow I wash the rest of my body with Dove soap, but take care not to get it anywhere near my bits. I also ensure I rinse the area thoroughly with plain water using a hand held shower head last thing before I get out of the shower to make sure no soap has migrated.
